The first pippies of the season are here! I love the pippies~ always my favorite part!

These babies are out of Venus (Amel)

So these babies are Normal (or Wild Type) het for Amel Blood Red. Only 4 out so far~ but all the rest of the noses look pretty much the same:

Three of the babies out have very normal looks~ and very normal bellies~

But one of the babies has a very pretty clear belly (suprise! I don't know if it means anything though as it does not have a Blood Red head)

Unfortunately~ the same baby also has a tail kink (suprise :shrugs: ) It's only a small kink past the vent~ but obviously I am very disappointed to see it. I've heard before that small kinks like this are often outgrown, but I've never kept a kinked baby to see before~ what do y'all think?

As long as it's past the vent and won't make problems for defecation, I would wait and see how the kink progesses. It may get better, it may get worse, but if it's only the tail that's affected, I'd give it time.

I would give the baby a chance. I've kept and given away many babies with kinks and they do just fine.

And the bellies of the babies are typical of het bloodred. Some will have normal belly checks and others will have a white line down the center of the belly that can vary in thickness, and some will have only a few belly checks along the 2 edges. It's been theorized that you'll find the het bloods having the wider white belly line to be male. So far, the theory works.

Thanks for the info~ I was looking at their sides trying to identify the "slightly diffused" sides I've always heard the hets have~ but I think I just need to look at them all much closer after the sheds and maybe I'll be able to "see" it~ as I've never really been able to see it in the pics.

After the sheds I'll see how many of the clearer bellies are also male~ very interesting~ again thanks for the info!
