planted viv

my snakes (14") are currently in a 15gal tank. once they start to show some size they will be moving to their new home, a 125gal planted vivarium.
my question: was thinking moss might be too humid a substrate, would potting soil / grass be alright? we've got our plants picked out for climbing / hiding, but nothing picked out for ground coverage yet. suggestions?

Holy Macaroni batman! 125gal?? thats huge! How do you plan on cleaning it? Sounds like a BIG job. I'm not real sure about the potting soil, but if you do use it, it would be a good idea to feed in a separate tank because of the looseness of the soil(easy to injest). I would like to see the pic of your viv.

I want a 125!! LOL I would think potting soil and grass would make some high humidity as well. You might try forest bedding and keeping the plants in their pots buried partway under the substrate. Monitor the humidity well though.

I agree with JTGoff69, and try nd go for alo-vera (however it's spelt) or yucca plants as they don't need watering all that often.

i've always wanted a huge tank for my snakes and make like a little peace of nature (surrounded by glass). if i were you, i'd use potting soil and plant grass. is you use enough soil, it will soak in the droppings espacially when you water it. remember that you dont have holes on the bottom of the tank so dont water it too much. consider potential bugs! would love to see a picture when its done.
