Whispher shed the other day, but not completely. The skin on her tail was still there. After waiting about four more days in hopes it would come off by itself I decided to bathe her. While she was in the water (she took it much better than I had expected) she pooed. I totally hadn't expected it! My dad, who was watching me bathe her found it endlessly amusing of course. Just thought I'd share this first time with you all.

And who would think we could have waterfalls in Las Vegas ?! It's still raining!!!

At least it saves on a spot check for today :laugh01:

I would seriousley still spot check anyway as after a bath the sometimes go a little more often once they have been (esspecially when not compleatly empty).

Did you get the shed off BTW?

LOL...... Honestly as gross as it may seem i know when my snake is ready to go by looking at him so i give him a bath to make him go so its in the water instead of his tank. Helps with keeping him and the tank clean and keeps the odor out. Just wait till he poops right on you. The odor is nasty, you know he ate some thing dead thats for sure. Dayoh pooped on my shirt and i had to take a shower.

You folks out there take care...you sure don't get the kind of rainfall we're getting this year (thanks to El Niño) very often.

lol

I got the shed off fine, first time trying and I was really surprised at how well it went. I couldn't really smell it, the whole house smelled of fish (crab for dinner) and Kilz (dad's getting ready to do some painting.). But those smells were bad enough! I'll say this much though, it was a learning experience!

I heard about the mudslides in California (not sure if it's north or south though) Hope all is well for you there.

There are theories abound....

...on this forum regarding bathing snakes. There are frequent bathers who swear the snakes enjoy it and it keeps them regular; there are those who think no one in their right mind should bathe a snake via force (read: not letting the snake decide to go in on his own). :toiletgra

I personally tried it once and he hated it. I had planned not to do it again, however, I thought I had mites, so I bathed him once more to see if any came off. Niether time did he poop. Instead he prefers to poop on me :eek1:

I'm sure Spirit and Cav will be along to join in this discussion :noevil:

Dayoh doesn't care for his baths but he doesn't get really stressed so i keep giving then to him. If he starts getting upset i quit. I just have him running through it i don't force it on him, i just gently guide him back in when he slides out. lol........ Just wondering if any one knows how often or soon he should go after he eats. Generally he goes 1-2 times between feedings. Say i feed on Sunday he goes 1-2 times on Friday and i feed friday night or Saturday again. Sound normal to ya"ll?

Oh you beat me to it! I think you detailed my argument very nicely. ;)

For the record, I do not believe in bathing reptiles for the purpose of "biological response". Snakes will soak when and if they feel the need, period. :)

Thanks for your concern...the mud is down south...hope all our friends down there are away from the danger zones...

dry skin

If you keep getting problems with stuck skin patches maybe the air in your house is to dry . Winter air is has low in humindity try a water bowl that your snake can crawl into make sure that the water leavel in the bowl is not to high so when your snake goes into it the water does not spill ofer the edge or when your snake is going into a shed put a closed plasitc contaner with a snap on lid,in the in the cage, cut a hole in the center of the lid 2 inches in diameter. with some damp sphagnum moss inside fill contaner 1/2 way with moss. this may help. I dont argee with bathing a snake to go to the bathroom the only time I would do this is when the snake is backed up and can't go on their own and before hibernation to clean out the snake. this is only my oppoin .

LOL. Last weekend my little snow corn decided my hand was a toilet. that was nasty, i allmost upchucked from the smell :puke01: .
At any rate, im in the same situation with a snake we just got for my sister. hes a Normal, prob about 6 months old, ant it appears that he has a piece of his last shed stuck on his tail-tip (its just about 1/8 of an inch on the VERY tip). ive read that this can cause the tail tip to fall off, so i think im going to give him a swim tonight.
