Herper Wife
Hey guys. Ive been keeping corns for almost 10 years now but this little one we might possibly be getting I want to be sure about. Ive never had any blood-reds before but have always wanted one(Just never happened as we branched out into other species). Looks like he has some diffusion going and the belly looks very bloodred. Just wanted expert opinion.

Id just like to add these photos were not taken by me XD I would never use gloves even if I had the nastiest bitiest snake in the world XD

And the person used a camera phone which doesent make things easier for details

Looks diffused to me!

Wooh! Is it appropriate for me to do a happy dance right now? XD She is wanting a reasonably price or a trade for one of our ratsnake intergrades that we have available(Either of which is fine by us). I'm kind-of excited! Wither its male or female it would have a place within our breeding projects! :).

The tail looks very male. Has okay diffusion, looks a little skinny. Not enough color saturation for "bloodred", but still a nice looking diffused animal.

Yeah I thought he looked skinny too. Most likely someone who doesn't know when to up prey size.

Personally I wouldn't pick that snake as foundation breeding stock. There is still quite a lot of dorsal pattern and the colour saturation isn't great. I'd say it was pet quality rather than breeding project material, especially if you are looking to outcross to try to get diffused hets for further breeding.

I'd also be concerned about how skinny the snake is. Seems to me that the person must have been feeding it right at some point for it to have reached that length and girth, and something else has happened since (whether it's them now not feeding enough, or something more sinister like a parasite) for it to then loose weight and become so skinny looking. JMO...

I got a bit more details from the current keeper. She found him skinny also(She hasnt had him long) The people she got him and two beardies from moved out of province. The two beardies did test positive for a high count of pinworms and had coxcidia. I do have de-wormer here and am not scared in dealing with parasites(I took my vet tech course and learnt how to deal with all of them in parasitology) Just got to see if I have a vet willing to do a fecal exam here. I dont want to just got ahead and treat without a fecal.

She did mention that the poor little guy was being fed pinky rats(Still too small_ when she got him. She upped him to hoppers mice. Hes only had a few meals with her so not much time to bulk him up. I advised her at his size he should most likely be on adult mice or two hoppers per meal.
