On Monday my wireless mouse stopped working that I got for Christmas. Greg took it back and got me a new one. That one did not work either. We unplugged it from the mouse port and plugged it into a USB port and it worked fine.

This morning my keyboard stopped working. The keyboard is not new and is not wireless. I did a restart and then it worked again.

The same thing happened with my mouse. I did a restart and it worked.

My keyboard stopped working again this afternoon so I did an uninstall and then a reinstall and it is now working again.

This has NEVER happened before and I'm at a total loss as to what is causing it.

I cleared my history, deleted cookies, uninstalled a Walmart photo manager that I installed about a month or two ago, I updated my virus scan (it does this automatically but I did it anyway)......

I'm so worried that something is really wrong......please help!

Thank you. I tried that.....I also did a virus scan, updated my virus protection, deleted temp files, etc.......

Thanks for the link. The wireless mouse is brand new but we did check into updates. The thing that bothers me is the fact that the keyboard is old and it's NOT wireless.....so there should be no connection between the mouse and the keyboard yet they are both giving me issues.
The mouse was unplugged from it's port and put into a USB. It worked great but then decided not to work this AM. I restarted the computer and it worked again.
The keyboard had to be uninstalled and reinstalled. Then it worked again. It just seems really weird.....

Any chance the cords might be chewed on or nibbled by a cat or some other animal? Almost sounds like the wires are connecting up and then not connecting up hence the intermittent working . . . :shrugs: Just an idea from a different angle! :)

if the computer has been used often and if the previous mouse and the current keyboard were bother wired, then simple ware and tear could be the cause of the problems. The P/S2 ports may be a little shaky because the cords were yanked on or tripped on by someone or something(pet). I know that the usb to ps2 adapter I had for my keyboard was basically rendered useless when my dog tripped on the keyboard's wire walking away from me. I have had a similar problem, but it basically had to do with a component of the keyboard itself not reamining constant and being "connnected" rather than the ps/2 ports themselves... Really that's the best I can do though... I'm more into the media aspect of computers rather than the hardware..

Thanks for writing!!!! I really appreciate the replies. We do not have cats. The wireless mouse is still plugged into a port and that's why I thought it must be a computer issue. The receiver (I believe that's what it's called) is the part of the mouse that is plugged in. The actual mouse is wireless and communicates through the receiver......

The keyboard could very well have been pulled on (wire) over the years. I was actually thinking about going wireless with it as well.

I just hope it's nothing serious....like a foreshadow of worse issues. Someone else thought I might have a bug or something that my virus protection missed. I guess after everything I've tried (I did a defrag last night), I'll just wait and see if either of them stop working again for a few days. Thanks again!

Maybe the mouse and the keyboard are conflicting with each other???? That thought just came to me......a good excuse to get a new keyboard, eh??? LOL
