Spring is here!
One of my friends son was in a horrible accident yesterday. He was in the back seat without a seatbelt(not needed according to the law). His friend who was driving ran a stop sign, and they were hit by a semi truck. Nick was thrown from the car and was air lifted to one of the best hospitals in michigan.
Please pray for him and his family.

I'd also like to say that this should be a lesson to anyone who has people in the back seat. I know for myself no one rides in my car without a seatbelt. I don't care where your sitting, you WILL wear your seatbelt.

i will be praying for him. i hope everything goes well for him and that he can one day share his lesson with others.

I'm not a praying person but my thoughts are with him, his family and his friends. I really hope he will be okay.

Thank you! That truly is all I ask for. I should know more later today. The mothers niece also works with me and I will probably call her soon to find out the latest news.

Ditto. I hope he recovers quickly, and fully... What a tragedy. =(

I didn't even know there were still states with no seatbelt law...

There is nothing more tragic than a young life in jeopardy for a preventable reason. I hope Nick recovers from his injuries.

:( What terrible news, and so preventable. It really shocks me that it can be legal not to wear a seatbelt. Thinking of you and your friends, I hope and pray things turn out for the better.

Thank you all. Nick has his good days and bad days. He still has swelling on the brain and that has caused his blood pressure to go up, he also has developed fluid in his lungs(understandable) and they now have him on something called a "roto-bed". It apparently rotates his body from right side up to upside down at different time intervals.

Please continue with the prayers. He not close to being out of the woods yet.

Does he have a cervical spine fracture? That's typically the patients I see here, who are on rotobeds. It's extremely dangerous to get ejected from a vehicle- I wish more people weren't so nonchalant about not wearing a seatbelt.

I haven't updated this in quite awhile. Nick left the hospital about 3 weeks ago and went to a rehab center. He was there for a week and is now home. His mom has taken a leave from work because he needs round the clock care right now.
He does have bad short term memory loss because of his head injury, to the point where after he came out of his coma he'd ask his mom every day who she was. That is getting a bit better, but still not great. His goal is to go back to school, which of course will be tough without his short term memory.
Please continue to pray for his continued recovery. I know he still needs its.

I'm glad to see that he is at home, and that things are improving, even though it may be slow going. I will pray that his memory comes back and that everything will be back to normal.

Thanks for the update, I hope his recovery continues. I can't imagine the strain his family must be suffering.

I missed this the first time around...

What a terrible thing to happen to an innocent child! Being so young, my hopes are that he will be able to heal well enough to lead a normal, healthy life.
