The snake will eat the pinky from whichever end it wants. (Sometimes they will eat it rear end first.)
If you have any kind of substrate the snake can get in its mouth (wood chips, etc) then it's a good idea to feed the snake in a deli cup or some other container where it cannot ingest its substrate. Also, make sure the snake is in an escape-proof place while feeding. If you don't have a deli cup, you can place the snake and pinky inside a paper bag, secured inside its enclosure.
