hey guys ..hwo u doing..listen to this i got my corn snake a mouse.... it went half way through then it just took it back out ..why is that......i gave it another mouse ....it refused it ....why did it do that...and i feed it a much bigger mouse long time it ate him please help :(

Maybe your snake is just not very hungry, or maybe it's going in to shed. There's nothing to worry about if this is the first time it's skipped a meal. Corns can safely go quite a long time without eating. Wait a few days and try again, unless you see that it is starting the shed process. In that case, wait until it's done shedding, then offer food again.

it shed 2 days ago

hey hows are u and thnx for the reply u think i should feed it tommorrow or wait like a couple of days and will she eat that mouse that she ate half of or no....cause its extreamly hard for me to get mice........so every mouse means aloot to me .... :( ..... plus every mouse is 7 $ us .......... its very far and stuuf.....so what do u think

I'd wait a couple days. Definitely don't give her the same mouse! Maybe she didn't think that one was right, or something. But in any case, it's been thawed, and might have gone bad by now. She'll need a fresh mouse to eat.

If mice are so expensive and difficult to get there, you might think about starting your own small mouse colony, if you have the space. If you can get a male and a female, chances are they will breed, and then you'll have lots more mice.

whoa 7$ dollars for mice !!!???????? i pay 1.50 for mice and .79 for pinkies but maybe the snake not too hungry or it just doesnt wan to eat

i have an idea

try putting him in a container alone with a mouse whilst u go out or something, make sure it has a lid and air holes, the same thing happened 2 mine, i think that it is just nervous about being watched whilst it is eating.

I would agree with the mouse colony. Thats what I would do when I move back to the Emirates. There are mixed views about live feeding so you'd have to decide that for yourself but if you do decide to kill the mice make sure it's humane (dont let them suffer). Also, you can order mice on the net but I dont know how much it would work out as with postage and packaging! Its worth a look though, try cajunmice.com....I think thats the address. If Im wrong someone will post the right one Im sure!!

no way mouse colony

no wayy my mom would kill me..............i offered my snake a mouse it didnt eat it .......i put it back in the freezer............... is it a problem if i feed it someother day or ill have to throw it
...i hope u guys can say keep it :)..thanx

I would throw out the mouse that's already been thawed once. That's what I do with any meat that didn't get used or cooked the first time it was thawed out.

Hi Abuyoussef,
Defrosting any meat and refreezing it is not good I am sure you dont want to make your snake sick.
Is it an adult Corn snake? If it is not you should feed it hoppers. It may have eaten and adult before but that does not make it ok. I think it is best going with more smaller prey than one that a little too big.

feeding

hi guys i need help

today i gave my snake the first mouse it had no problem eating it but i noticed the behaviour of the snake changed after it ate it it was movin all aroun the tank it just wouldnt stop movin untill now its calming down ...is this normal???

Slick-I have seven corns and 2 of them travel all around and seem to go exploring after they eat. Maybe they are looking for the perfect temp. to digest! :) Just watch him and make sure he keeps it down.

Abu- Have you tried those mouse sausage/steak things(can remember the name) they are mentioned in the Corn Manual. I don't know how much they cost but it might be something to look into. I'm not trying to be smart but if the cost of feeding your snake is more than you can handle, maybe you should consider selling him or adopting him out to someone who has the resources. It may be painful to give him up, but it also has to be hard to cope with having to decide whether to feed your snake compromised food or letting him go hungry. :(

Just a thought anyway. I hope that everything works out for you.

i had the snake for 7 days now its 4 feet today is the first time im gonna feed it a mouse....no i dnt have a problem with handling it i can get a mous every day ..but i just wamted to know if wat its doin is normal?? ...i gave it the mouse alive...he was no danger coz snake was too fast for him ...well its lieng down now i think its sleepin but stilll i kinda wanna know if its normal?

Hey Slick I got you and Abu. confused! Like I said in my above post, I wouldn't be too worried. 2 of mine wonder all around before they settle in. Do you know if he was eating live or F/T before? Since this is the first time you've fed him maybe he's still a little stressed from the change in houses.
Just keep an eye on him and make sure he's got a few places to hide and feel secure.

Hope this helps

thanks colleen ya he looks happy i have 2 hiding places but hes not hidin now hes just lieng down ..i have no idea if he ate live ones before but would it make a difference??oh ya do u have any idea wat the temperature has to be in the tank at the warm side??

Slick- If he has had nothing but F/T all his life the change to live might cause him some stress. But since you said he ate it fine then he may have been eating live. If you can I would find out from his previous owner, then you'll know for sure in case you would want to use F/T at some point. The temps should be around 90 on the hot side of the tank. That is the best temp. for proper digestion according to the Manual. If you don't have it the Corn Snake Manual by Bill and Kathy Love is a great resource! It is pretty much the "Bible" on Corns.

Hope this helps

colleeeen

ya i wanna buy a cornsnake guide ..well i have a heatin pad the ones u put under the tank and the temp is in the 80's is that good ???im not askin abt digestion temp but the normal temp in the warm side...and ya i guess ur right i should ask the owner ...

The temp. on the top of the substraight should be in the mid-high 80s. Where do you have your therm.? I lay mine face down on the aspen and it's around 86-88 depending. It's so hot here right now that I'm only turning them on at night since the room temp. with AC is getting over 90 thru the day. I hate this heat!LOL
