Is it ok to use an UTH on 1/8" thick plexiglass. I have a reostat so it cant get to hot. Also is it ok to use water based acrylic paint on a viv? I'll give it a week to air out like.
I would be hesitant to put a UTH on plexiglass/acrylic tanks even when using a rheostat because if for whatever reason your rheostat should fail (and I've had a few), you could have potentially serious consequences if the UTH is hot enough to damage/melt the plexiglass on it's own without the rheostat.
As far as painting a tank goes, I would use a water based paint as I believe it will adhere better to a glass/acrylic surface better than an oil based paint, and should be much less harmful in regards to fumes, but please do some more research on this as I'm just going by my own limited knowledge. Plus, I would paint the outside of the tank and not the inside to limit the exposure to the animals and for easier cleaning without scratching the paint and getting paint chips on the inside. Sure it's easier to scratch the outside of the tank, but it's also easier to touch it up too
