Plexiglass viv

Can you build a plexi tank cheaper than buying an aquarium tank? Getting ready to get snakes & would like to save on tank if possible. The tanks that I have priced (petsmart) are about $60 for a 20 long with screen top. Gonna get baby snakes, but do not see how it would save to start in smaller tank because they will grow out of it & you'll need the big one anyway.

Just wondering - Thanks

I don't think so. I had looked into a while back but found it was cheaper to look on craigslist or to use storage tubs instead.

I once "inherited" a vivarium with sliding plexiglass doors. According to the previous owner it was only two years old, but the doors were really scratched up, scruffy and cloudy. Don't think I'd recommend it.

I don't see anything against acrylic, as long as you take care of it then there shouldn't be any problems, and scratches and scuffs will take MUCH longer to acquire.
Here's the one I built
Acrylic enclosure

Thing about plexi glass though, its not that expensive to replace.I can buy a 3x6ft piece for $46 and 2 36x36 for $17 a pop. I believe glass is going to cost a lot more.

I plan on using plexi on the front of my project viv and 2 36x36 are more then enough to do what I need to do. How ever if your going to go almost all plexi then no it wouldnt really be worth it. My project is just plexi on front, not every where.

I got a huge 200 gallon with a built in stand for $175 on craigslist. Just bought it and started to decorate, but still waiting to get my heat tape in so I can finish.
