Pliskin: Lord of Stealth

Cyber Dragon
Here are some picture that I took of my baby corn Pliskin. Ignore the wierd dialogue. I originally made this collage for my LJ to be silly.

:-offtopic Sadly just two months after I got him he lived up to his namesake and entered stealth mode somewhere in my apartment. :sidestep: We're on day 4 now, and no sign of the little bugger! Took 2 days off work to tear apart the apartment, but all for nothing. There's currently 10 snake-traps around the house, each with half a pinkie that's replaced daily... It's getting expensive... and gross for guests. The weather took a turn for the colder yesterday. I'm hoping the trap with the hotrock it in looks more enticing... (only one trap could have the hotrock since I can't afford to buy too many extras. My charcoal needs his, so I could only spare the one intended for Pliskin.) I'm pretty sure of what room he's in, but he's likely in one of 6 places that I cannot see or get into, even with furniture moving.

In the meantime, I'm driving the roomie bananas by insisting on bear feet, cushion checking before sitting down or sleeping, and every piece of laundry being flipped inside out before being washed and dryed. Oh, she's loving it...

Ah, what an introduction! "Here's my prized companion: By the way, I just lost him!" If he is ever found, I will never underestimate his awesome powers of escape again :-/ Live and learn...

lol good look finding him funny cartoonish strip thing btw. u must have got bored.

They were supposed to be. My original purpose invisiting this forum was to find ways to locate my little Pliskin. Since visiting I've been learning all sorts of useful things about heat, substrate, feeding schedules, and other care tips.

:-offtopic
I'm still a snake newb, and everything I know about them was based on what my snake friend recommended to me, and some basic care sheets downloaded off the internet. This forum has far more information then either of those sources. I'm going to look into getting some alternative heating for my critters. They havn't yet shown an inclination to be cooked on their rocks... but that's not to say that they won't in the future. I'm also using crushed walnut substrate, which seemed like a good idea at the time (lets them burrow, clumps and easy to clean, harmless when ingested) but aparently the aspen shavings I use for my guinea pigs are healthier for my snake since they won't dry him out. There's a lot to learn!

Ah, yet another tangent.

I'm still hoping to find Pliskin. I have a good idea of what piece of furniture he's hiding in, but there is no way to see or pull him out of it safely. I suspect he is in a dresser, but he's not under it or in the drawers. I think that he's climbed up between the wood that makes up the sides, and the wood that borders the drawers is hanging out there. It's dark, warm, sheltered, and right next to where he would have dropped out. The drawers are not removeable (no pegs or ways to unhook it...) so the only way to get to him, or even check if he's there, would be to collapse the dresser and "unbuild" it. Seeing as how he's likely inside it, it doesn't seem very safe.

My apologies for the ramble. I'm very upset about losing my pet. I've owned quite a few animals over the course of 12 years, but have never had one get out before. I'm very fond of Pliskin (and Big Boss, the remaining charcoal corn) and dissappointed that my carelessness caused him to become lost.

Around the dresser there are 2 2-liter traps, and one shoebox with water to the side, and a shirt wrapped around a hot rock. If anyone has any further suggestions for catching him that do not involve tape (seems like more harm then benefit.) or cats (my roommate is highly allergic, nor can I commit to an animal for 15-20 years just to find another animal!), I'm open.

:-offtopic But I want to say, Neondragon, how nice it is that you found this site, have taken the time to do some research, and are actually planning to put to use the information you have found. That may sound silly, but it's amazing how many people don't. It shows how much you really do care for your snake. I really hope you find Pliskin. And welcome to the forum :).
