Poo!

Now that I have learned the signs of when nature calls, it seems I get an inevitable poo on me. It's usually when he's somewhere dark and warm, like a sleeve. Is this normal?

I really think so! Especially the dark. I let him crawl around on my bed, and he left a present under my baseball cap. Another time I let him explore my sock drawer and he left a gift for me there too. So yeah dark places for sure. I'll never let him crawl under my pillow or into my sheets.

It's gotten to the point that I always have some paper towel ready when I first take him out, and for the first 10-20 minutes I let him crawl around and explore on his own, but every time he stops and stays still for a moment I keep a real close eye on the rear end, if I see the "waves" I can place the PT underneath and I can toss out the mess right away!

Once he's done his business though I know he's safe to pick up and let him crawl all over me.

Basically, when you take him out, you're forcing him to move around, which stimulates his bowels. He might have a preference for dark enclosed spaces, or it might just be a coincidence. Nothing abnormal, though!

If I can see that my snake is going to need to poop soon (the bulge before the tail), I'll usually let them crawl around on the grass first so they can do their business and then I can hold them without fear! :)

Haha, thank you all for help on this seemingly silly topic. I don't mind it too much when he gives me a present, but it's always good to know the precursers, so I can at least make sure I'm not wearing something I care about hahaha.
I definitely will look at the bulge before the tail now. I hadn't known that about corns!

Yes, first the bulge, then the waves (lol), then my snakes hold their tails up at an angle right before the moment of truth which is when I lunge at them with a paper towel.

If we had all said "No, that's not normal" what could you do about it anyway? ;)

Snake's gonna snake!

Here is another pooh inquiry, can a snake get constipated, Gracie has eaten twice, she is ten mos old, and i have not seen pooh in the viv yet. We all look every day, but no pooh. The first meal was two small pinkies, the second meal was 1 small and 1 med pinky, that was wed. I have been just tossing the top layer of aspin away and changing the moss in her hide. She is only about 18 in and 16 grahms. Am i just missing it, she only hides the first couple of days after eating then is climbing all over the place exploring.

They can take a long time between poops, and they can also hide it creatively. I haven't looked up the recommended prey sizes for your snake but my Rigby used to be an infrequent pooper and I realized later that I was slightly underfeeding him. It can also just take awhile.

Thank you i was getting concerned, The breeder recommended a large pinky weekly but they are hard to find. i did find some locally so now i have them in the freezer, and will give her one at her next feeding. She was much calmer at this feeding, not striking near as much and seems to be exploring her viv more.

When they're little, their poop is tiny. You may have a hard time finding it, but as long as she has appropriate heat for digestion, she should be fine.

Depending on species, age, and activity levels of a snake some can take FOREVER to poo. I thought poor Isis was impacted at one point in time because she went 3 months without going. Turns out she wasn't...

Our baby corn ate on Tuesday night and it looks like he has digested it. There really isn't a bulge in his belly area anymore, but there is a bulge towards the end of his tail. From reading this post all of this is normal... my question is that we can see a black mass through his skin at that bulge. Is this normal since he is still little (we guess he is around 6 weeks old) to be able to see the poo through his skin?

OK cool. I never thought we would get so attached and worried about a snake. This little guy we got for our son and it's just amazing the personality and all this little snake has. This forum is the best thing though. All you guys answer our questions so quick. We appreciate it very much.

This is why I ALWAYS give my kids several days to poo before holding them. Once I see the "gift" in the viv, I will hold them, even though they may not be done, but that only happened once.

And baby poos are sometimes almost non-existent, so unless he is acting odd I just assumed potty duty was done!

Let's define little. Are we talking the size of rice? The size of rabbit pellets? I know how big the pinky was that Belle chomped down. She ate around midnight Sunday night/Monday morning. She has zippy bulge anywhere on her body. I had her running laps in my hands and arms for about 15 minutes and I had no surprise. I have also gone through both hides and her favorite burrowing spots. I have another two weeks or so before I replace the bedding so it will not be in there long if it is there. I just do not want the little gal to be chillin an illin in poop.

Thanks btw:grabbit:

Here's a poop from one of my babies who is eating pinkies. Keep in mind that a poop will be harder to find in aspen, because it will sink down a little bit, and because it doesn't have the stark white contrast like a paper towel does.
