Ha Ha, got you to look and it's not what you think. We were at Pets Plus getting the usual, and my dad brought up something(that we were discussing before) to the guy who owns it. "This one(pointing to me) has future breeding plans for his cornsnakes. Would you guys be able to buy them?"

Response:"Yes, we would buy it for about $1/$2 less than what we buy them from our original suppliers. Say we buy them for $20 before, we'd buy them for you for 19/18."

OK this is something reassuring I like to hear, they have a place to go. When we got back to the car my dad and I were discussing. Were those numbers he was using what he's actually gonna buy it from. I'm perfectly fine with that but it's just he buys it from that and sells it for 60-80? I'm just curious about your opinion. Also, yes after a hard last semester of school. I'm back!

Well that's cool. I can't get to the corn predictor at work- what babies would those two have?

That's about normal markup cost. 300% is average retail markup. They are lucky to be able to get that for live animals.

In the shop I work at...we have a BCI for sale. I know the breeder(a friend of mine), and got my BCI from him the same day as the shop got theirs. "We" paid $40 each for them. The shop is selling it for $120. It's fairly common, if you get a good enough price at the beginning.

We also got a snow honduran milk snake that was born genetically male, but had no tail, and, therefor, no sex organs, so could not possibly be used as a breeder. It ate like a champ, shed just fine, defecated properly, and acted completely normal. Had it been born complete, it would have sold from the breeder for around $400-500. He sold it to the shop for $20, and I just sold it to a couple of 20-something sisters that fell in love with it...for $100. They LOVED the fact that it had no tail and was "sexless". They said it made it "special"...

It isn't always that nice, though. We also had an Arizona mt. king that we paid $40 for, and only got $50 for the sale. Sometimes the shop wins...sometimes not. But 300% is an average markup for any retailer...

oh, and...and amel X blood would provide normals het. amel and diffused...

I'm so glad to hear that snake went to a good home!

That's great news, just one thing to keep in mind and consider. I've had several pet stores around me tell me they would buy my hatchlings whenever I had some, but that has rarely been the case. They'll buy them if they don't already have enough for their stock. They'll tell you that so you'll call them, and if they are in need, will be able to get some from you, but they aren't going to hold any space for you. So just keep in mind that there's alot of timing involved with selling to pet stores. If they're aren't many other breeders around, then it'll be easier for you to get in, but if there are, you gotta get there first.

Ty- great stories, I really get the jist of it now.
Duff- thanks, I'll be aware/not surprised if that happens now.

Now I just have to wait for about 1/1.5 years now for them to be ready to breed. lol

Thanks all.

I seriously doubt a pet store will pay you that much for corn hatchlings. I was wholesaling normals for $5 each, amels for $8 each, etc. Don't expect to receive much more than that.
