Possible Prolapse?

Hey guys,
Came home from work and Kohn was like this... looked at pictures of other prolapses and his is not like that but idk since im kinda new at this. So prolapse or just that time of the year for male snakes? :)

Thanx

Sry for the blur, hard to hold and take pic while he squirms.

Looks like the start of a partial prolapse of both hemipenes. Replace his substrate with paper towels or clean newspaper and give him a good soak in some room temp water. While he is soaking, call your herp vet and make an appointment because even though there is a chance they will reduce and go back in on their own, there is also the chance that they will not and rewuire surgical intervention.

Those look like hemipenises, I don't know why he would not retract them. Did he still not do that? I had a yearling show them and retract them the other day, I was a little anxious seeing it at first but then he retracted them.

I have read that it helps to soak the snake in some warm salt water.
I hope that your snake retracts them on his own.

Hey, thanx folks, he is at the vet now. Kept him in a box w/ a wet papertowl all night till I could get him there this morning...only $168.. thought it'd b more with having to put him under and all.

Amputate and stitch or try to reduce swelling, reinsert and possibly stitch... im my case it was a snip and stitch since i diddnt plan on breeding him anyway Update: he is home and all stitched up... supposed to put neosporin on it twice a day... he also is going on his fourth week of not eating... he has taken f/t's b4 but not for a while now. Any ideas on how to entice him or should I try a live one...
Thanx folks... y'all help a lot

aww poor fella! As far as feeding, he looks pretty healthy i wouldn't worry for a few months if he didnt eat, just def make sure there is fresh water and super clean viv. If he doesn't eat a full grown mouse try offering some rat pups or other small prey just as a snack, im sure his little toosh is hurting! poor dude!

good luck! :)

He might be, probably is, going through the springtime hunger strike. I would try a fuzzy mouse or rat pink every two or three weeks until he feels like he's done looking for love and ready to eat.

A rat pink is the size of a mouse fuzzy, but very, very tempting to a cornsnake for some reason! Since he isn't eating anyway, the idea is to tempt him with smaller items that are possibly irresistible to him, rather than wasting an expensive adult mouse that he isn't going to accept anyway. I would get a current weight on him at this point so you can keep track of it going forward. Some snakes will fast for weeks or even months starting any time from the first of the year until late spring/early summer.

Hey folks... Update:he he died this morning... vet said must have had a underlying condition that caused the prolapse to begin w/. But I gotta get another... way to depressing to look at an empty viv. Not going back to the store I got Kohn and Sam from since when I git Sam he had a bad URI but he is almost over it now and finally ate on Wednesday. Was gonna order from bigappleherp.com unless y'all have a better suggestion... I want another okeetee

awww i sorry.. =[
i just saw this thread poor guy im sorry for your loss.. vmsherps has some good price snakes too i was glancing on there earlier today and drowling! =] keep us updated though =]

I'm so sorry :(

Vmsherp has some nice okeetees right now, as well as south mountain reptiles (I think), and sierra snakes. I know that henderson herpetoculture (in Bend, OR) just had some hatch out, though I'm pretty sure they're not ready for a few more weeks, Strange Cargo exotics also has extremely lovely okeetees, but I'm not sure when they will be available, or how many there will be. Walter Smith (wscornsnakes.com) has amazing okeetees (including butter okeetees etc) but he doesn't have any quite yet either. Just off the top of my head.

Wow- that is really strange! I am so sorry for your loss.

As for the new snake: I would highly, highly recommend buying from either Sean (VMS) or Don (SMR- South Mountain Reptiles). Not Big Apple, which is just a high-volume no personal attention on-line equivalent of Petco/Smart. I have multiple snakes from Sean, and my most valuable snake comes from Don, and both are great to work with and provide excellent quality animals.
