Possible Respiratory Infection

Foxide

Need more corns.
Firstly, I moved my male Amel into a bigger enclosure last week and since then he is pretty much never in his hides. He is always lying out in full view. These are the exact same hides as his old enclosure and while he didn't hide much then either, he at least did sometimes. But now he never does. Day or night.. Should I be worried about this?

The main issue, when I was feeding him on Saturday I thought I heard a sneeze. This was a red flag for me, and I've been keeping a close eye on him. I let him digest in peace and and took him out for the first time today, and he's making 'clicking' noises and opening his mouth every couple of minutes. There's no sign of mucous around his nose and none on the enclosure walls either.

He's deep in blue at the moment and I've read that sometimes shedding can cause respiratory infection like symptoms, but I'm worried that this may be an actual RI.

His enclosure isn't very humid and it's definitely clean all of the time, and I'm pretty much just asking for opinions as to whether or not it's a real RI. Obviously he'll see a vet ASAP regardless.

Naturally, after I posted this, he went into his hide on his own accord. So maybe I was just being paranoid about that.

If he's about to shed, that's probably what caused the "sneeze". The skin loosens from the snout first and loose skin around the nostrils has been known to cause irritation and odd RI-type symptoms without the mucous.

My bet is that as soon as he sheds, you won't hear another sound out of him. Don't start looking for complicated answers when the simplest one is your probable cause.

As for different behaviour, when you transfer them to a new tank they sometimes act like completely new arrivals. It probably took him some time before he figured that the hides were safe. They can take time to adjust, so don't worry. As long as he takes his next feed OK you don't have a problem.

Same problem

I am having the same problem right now with my oldest female. Same symptoms except she is NOT in shed. I am switching out aspen tonight to paper towels and upped temps a bit. Hoping this helps. No snot or anything, just sneezing and hissy noises and opening mouth every once in a while.

Anything else I can do on my own before heading to vet?
