Nothing major, I remember someone (Nanci?) on here mentioning where they got their snake bags from? I currently have 6 snakes (3 corns, 1 hoggie, 1 rubber boa and 1 ball python) of various sizes...I can't remember the name of the website :shrugs:

Pillow cases work just as well....cheaper in some cases if you get them at somewhere like the dollar store or dollar general.....

Or almost any garage sale or, if you have some and don't mind using them again after washing, they serve as double duty!

I don't reuse the carrying cases. I've had snakes crap in them going to the vet or had been ill.....I have pillow cases that match my sets...don't need to use the transport cases.....

Bumping this up as now I am actually moving...from Idaho back to Montana. I have 1 adult ball python, 2 adult corns, 1 small adult corn, 1 sub-adult rubber boa and 1 sub-adult hognose...would pillowcases be good for the little ones? That seems awfully big to me, or does it really matter? Also, it's about an 8 hour drive give or take, and we will be travelling with a U-Haul (the snakes will be in my vehicle, not the U-Haul) so the chances of the trip taking a bit longer (10ish hours or so) due to having to drive through more than one mountain pass will be likely...will they be ok in the bags for that long?

I'm just paranoid as the last time I traveled with a snake it didn't go well...I used a Styrofoam cooler with holes for ventilation, I had *thought* the lid was secure, turns out it wasn't...somehow he got out of the cooler and lost in the trunk of the car I had at the time (1989 Honda prelude) and got stuck in some sort of adhesive that was used to keep the carpet stuck down...after a few sheds it all came off but I was sure he had gotten out of the car (noticed he was missing after a stop to re-fuel the car in Oregon) and thankfully found him in the trunk after arrival in Montana...I was an absolute mess, hysterical that he could've been gone forever...

I did this back in January or February 2014, forget when, but the drive was from Albuquerque, NM to Little Elm, TX. I think it took us 11 or 12 hours.

I went to Lowes and bought 1 inch Styrofoam board and multiple 18x18x16 boxes. I cut the foam to fit as if I were lining the box for shipping. All sub-adult and adult snakes went into pillow cases, all hatchling and yearling/juvie snakes went into deli cups, and lizards (some 50-60 geckos, 1 beardie, and 2 ackies) went into deli cups, and I loaded the crap out of the boxes. All were moved within vehicle cabs (I was in 10ft budget truck and my wife was in her 2013 ford focus (damn thing can hold a lot!)).

I forget how many scale-babies we moved, but it was pushing 100. We also moved 2 cats, which thankfully both were either sleeping or wanting to be pet vs needing to use restroom. Sadly, when we moved this spring a whole 45 minutes away, our male cat decided to blow up #1 and 2 within his carrier. 10 hours...perfectly fine, 45 minutes...NOPE!

That sounds like a plan, where do you pick up deli cups? Or did you already have them? I really don't want to buy 100+ for just 2-3 snakes lol...I have a 2011 Xterra which has quite a bit of room and will likely be bringing the snakes and my 2 cats along as well.

I bought my deli cups at a restaurant supply store and punched the holes myself (cheaper, but super time consuming when dealing with that many critters).

I did the ol' google search....hit up Fred Meyers/Smith's/Kroger deli counter and see if they'll just give you some deli cups. I forget why I've done that, but it worked at a Kroger down here. I use a 1/8 inch hole punch from Hobby Lobby or Michaels to punch holes into the cups. It's a semi-tight fit to get the cup lip into the hole punch, but it works. I do 8 holes per cup.

For the larger snakes, go grab some cheaper zip-up pillow cases at the anti-Christ, I mean Wal-Mart. I use those and then also tie them off. Sometimes they are small, so I'll grab longer, non-zippable cases instead.

RE: pillowcases......would the type that are made of that jersey t-shirt material work? Or would that be considered "too thick" for proper air flow?

Honestly, I've just used whatever the cheapest fabric cases were. I know WalMart has plastic ones too, obviously avoid those. I have some cases from an old full set that was 100% cotton, but t-shirt type - kind of what a fruit of the loom or hanes 100% cotton tee would feel like. It clung to me and I usually over-heated in the set during the summer.

Not sure if that answers things directly, more of a read between the experiences post LOL

And speaking of experiences, let's talk about taxonomy in this thread too.

I kid! :nyah: :devil01:

Ha! I was thinking of running to the dollar store or some such place and finding some cheap pillow cases...I might be able to go get them this weekend/early next week! Just waiting on hearing back from my posse of friends who want to come help...I've been waiting a month and now that I have the chance I'm not sure I'm ready lol!

When we moved I had already been living in Dallas/Ft.Worth for 2 weeks. My new employer would not give me Friday or Monday off. A sour note, my wife was supposed to have had the majority of the house packed between my leaving and returning 2 weeks later - she did not. I flew out straight from work that Friday. The majority of her family was there to help and a few of our friends.

In a weekend, i managed to take 3 loads from junk within a 12ft budget truck to the city solid waste drop off, pack an entire ABF trailer, pack my herp caging into the budget truck, upset some family because of how stressed i was that we had to pack a 1700 sq ft house in a day and a half, and moved everything 12hr east. We left Albuquerque at 3 pm Sunday and got to Dallas at 3:45am Monday. I was cleared to come in late, but late was leaving the house for work at like 8:30 (45-60 min commute).

Ranting and rambling aside....you'll be fine. Just dont rush things, if you think any glass is secure or padded enough, add some more (i lost part of a rack, the bottom to a 70 gallon lizard lounge, and 2 tops to my 32 gallon lizard lounges).

*edit...by them I mean my snakes and belongings lol...

I hope you have a safe move Zombiegirl! Also hope everything works out for you and you find what you're looking for - and that you land happy, healthy, & horny . . . uh, er, uh. . . I meant, SAFELY! :eek1:

Either way, keep us posted, K? :p
