Possibly sick hatchling

I got my first snake, a motley corn, on the 13th, and he seemed to be acting normal, being naturally skittish and curious, eating well, and staying in his hides. Today, however, he has been very slow and very non-interactive, for the first time I saw him sitting outside of his hides, and after handling him he stayed where I put him. He last ate Sunday and has already pooped. I don't know if I am being too paranoid, or if this is something I need to be worried about.

Are these symtoms similar to what one might see if the snake is too cold? That is my only real hypothesis. His cold side is around 67F, which is room temperature, the warm side is around 75F with the light on that I turn off at night. I can see now that it is too cold, and will try to rectify this mistake as soon as possible, but I want to make sure that nothing else is wrong with him.

So I left the thermometer in longer with the light on, and it gets closer to 82F. He has an under tank heater, but it doesn't really seem to be doing much. I got a space heater and placed it next to Typhon's tank So hopefully that can keep him warm when the light is off.

I noticed that he has a concave section to his ventral surface, so I have added a picture of that.

A friend of mine who is a snake owner said that he might not have absorbed all the nutrients he needed to from his last feeding and that I should feed him again and unless I get different advice from here I will probably feed him tomorrow which would be 4 days after the last feeding.

It turns out that he regurged and I thought it was poop since I have never seen poop before, so I am going to figure out what I can do to fix that.

Scroll down to "FAQ from Kathy Love on Regurgitation Treatment" and follow it. I recommend NutriBac, which you can get on Amazon. I typically wait 10 days regardless of age, though I've only had one adult and one yearling regurge, mostly just a few babies who are easily stressed by every little tiny thing.

The warm spot should be 85 F day and night for proper digestion. Your snake may not stay in the warm spot the entire time he's digesting but it has to be the snake's choice. First thing you need to do for your little guy is to fix your temps.

I'm so sorry. I didn't realize. Typhon was so cute. RIP little snake.

I hope, when you are ready, you will try again. In the mean time feel free to hang out here.

Definitely. It only takes a few minutes to become very attached to a little snakey. It's never easy to lose one.

I'm so sorry to hear that. It's important to remember that his death was probably not your fault. Lowered temps could have contributed, but it most certainly was not the cause of his demise. Sometimes babies just don't make it, and Typhon looked quite tiny still. Though it's relatively rare, the possibility of failure to thrive is one reason many people encourage new keepers to buy an established yearling as their first snake.

Do you remember the vendor you bought him from? I wonder if it's someone I know. Was there any sort of health guarantee offered?

I'm sorry to hear that you lost your snake. It does sound like temps contributed to the regurge. You will want to make sure you have a thermostat for your UTH to regulate the temps.
