Problem Feeder

So we got a little guy about 10 days ago, but he will not eat. He has not fed since January 29th, and he is about 7-8 weeks old. We have tried every few days to feed him his pinkie, but he will not take it. We tried the dangling trick, we tried putting them in a container together in the dark overnight, we tried cutting it in half, braining it, etc. When the 21st comes around, it will have been 14 days since his last meal. On the other hand, our hypomel that is 5-6 months old is a great eater. She strikes within 5 seconds of the meal being presented to her.

So my question, can you guys suggest anything else to me to try on this little guy? When should I really start to get worried? Also, he is not looking like he is ready to shed. Should I maybe try to maybe get a of a live pinkie?

Definitely try live. Are you sure about the age, who is hatching corns in mid December? I guess people do, but I wonder if he might be a bit older...

I know how worrisome this can be. When I first got Bella in August, I had a really hard time getting her to eat. I tried all the things you mentioned with no luck. The one thing that finally worked is putting the pinky, then her, in a small brown paper bag (lunch bag). I folded over the top and clipped it with a small clip. Be very careful that he is nowhere near the top. Then I put the bag in her cage, put the top on and left her overnight. In the morning, the pinky was gone! This worked every time unless she was going into a shed cycle. She doesn't need this anymore, but it worked when we needed it. Good luck and keep us posted.

I forgot to mention, you might want to check the temps in his viv. Bella prefers it around 84, while Jasper likes it a bit cooler. I believe bumping up the temp a few degrees might have helped.

I just wanted to update this thread and let you guys know that we finally got this little one to eat! We took about a week off from trying so as to not overstress. We noticed the little one much more active the last couple days, so we offered tonight....took it with not problems!! Thanks for the help everybody.

Saw another suggestion that you can dunk the pinkie into boiling water for a few seconds right before feeding. Worked for another problem feeder...
