Problem Feeder

Ok so I went to the pet store today to pick up some needed supplies and ended up adopting this little amel baby girl in hopes of giving her a chance at life.

She weighed in at 3.1g and was 8.4" long. There was probably a dozen or so other corns in the tank with her. With quite a few of the others 5-6 times the size of her, she was definitely the runt.

Anyways, the guy working there told me that she hasn't ate the last two Fridays and that he tried braining the pinkie last time. He didn't know if she had ever ate before her arrival to the store, all he knew was that she never ate for him.

I was going to try cutting a f/t pink in half and then leave her covered up with it for an hour or so. I'm not really expecting that to work so I'll then take her out and attempt to tease feed her. Or I was thinking of trying out a live pinkie. Do you guys/gal think I should try the tease feeding or the live? I also want to get to another pet store and see if I can pick up some lizard scent. Any and all suggestions are encouraged.

And last I wondering if I should try to feed her tonight since its been five days since her last failed attempt, or should I wait until tomorrow to give her a day in her new viv?

I would give her a day or two to adjust to her new surroundings. Then because she hasnt been eating, I would offer her half a pinky in privacy to see how she does.

Congrads on your new edition and i hope she does well for you.
I see she refused the last two feedings. Perhaps you will have to try diff things to see what suits her tastes. You can try plain, washed and rinsed very well, scented like with a anole or gecko. Perhaps the temps they had at her last place was not right for her. Some like to hide away from lights or covered and over nite might work too. Some prefer small deli cups to fed in. Many things one can try and i hope one works soon for you...

Well I went to visit a local breeder (kenster) to check up on my soon to be snow motley and he happened to have a frozen canole. So now as I type this the little amel is in a deli cup tucked away in a dark closet with a scented pinkie.

I also picked up a normal motley problem feeder while I was over there to try to work with also. The wife doesn't know yet but she's going to freak out on me tomorrow morning when she sees the him. She placed a two snake maximum on me, which was suppose to be my cream and the snow I'm picking up Saturday. I think she thought the 3rd (amel) was kind of cute and kind of shrugged it off, seeing how I adopted it. But, I don't know what she's going to say about our newest tenant.

Unless your problem feeders has a penchant for misspelled Italian pastries, that would be an anole.

seriouly though, good luck with your snake :) I have posted replys to you but just not in this forum :)

lol typo. thanks for pointing that out.

Well last night was unsuccessful.

Well, wait 2-3 days. Make sure the pink is HOT!! You might want to just use the pinky head for now, unless you can find a really small one. Might want to Ivory soap wash it first, too. I don't think tease feeding will work. It wouldn't hurt to try live. Good luck!

Live was going to be my next move. Only problem is actually finding live around here.

Funny thing is that normal motley has already ate for me. I'm going to ask Ken if he wants him back since I haven't even had him home for a day now

Hey There I Would Try To Get A Small Deli Cup And A Small Pink A One Day Old If U Can Get One. Try To Feed 2-3 Day . Take A Spray Bottle With Warm Water And Spray It Down Then Put In A Dark Place . The Little One Should Eat Then . How Everything Works Out .

I don't think trying to feed two to three times a day would work. It would probably just result in a lot of refusals and stress, possibly putting the snake off entirely. And even if the snake did somehow manage to get three pinks down, at that size, she'd probably regurgitate them.

I Think All-Caps Man Was Trying To Say: Attempt To Feed The Snake Every 2 Or 3 Days Until It Eats... :shrugs:
