Problem with end of the tail and his sheds

my friend has a snow corn and when he purchased it there was some shed still stuck on the tip of his tail... after a few sheds it still hasnt come off and he cant get it off so he asked for my advice, im gonna try and soak it a few times and get it off but if that doesntw ork what should i do? it looks like its been through a few sheds

he also tells me the tip of the tail is gettin a purplish discolored look to it, so it doesnt sound to good so im gonna take a look at it and see what i can do.. but could the tip of the tail fall off? or as he grows will the skin eventually break its way off?

Try rub off what you can but it is sore area now and might hurt the snake. The tail tip is now dead... and will not grow back... this is due from the shed left on the tip. It cut off the circulation to it and the tip will be "rounded".

if there is discoloration on the tip of the tale it means it doesnt get circulation and will fall off... this happend to my first corn snake... i didnt realise i should have checked after each shed.. but the best he can do is use a warm papertowel and rub the tail after each shed to make sure it doesnt worsen.. since once the tail is messed up it will never shed right again.. i dont think this will affect his snake in anyway since it didnt affect mine.. just call them stubby ^^ :sidestep:

Soak him in water a little warmer that room temperature. (Keep an eye on him though!) Then get a paper towel and let him squirm through it in your hand (gently). This has worked for me. The end of the tail is probably dead though, but you never know.
Good luck!

Once the tip comes off, you'll have a rounded end and it's usually easy enough to keep it free of shed after that. Just check every time they shed after this to make sure that it all comes off.
