Prolonged Burrowing

Athena has spent the past week burrowing. Usually she'll burrow for 24 hours after her meal, a couple days at most. Last week she stayed burrowed much longer than usual, and this week I've barely seen her at all. I know that she does this before shed, but I looked at her and she doesn't look close to shed. Her eyes are still clear and her colors don't look particularly foggy. I haven't noticed any changes in her tank temps, and she hasn't changed prey size in months. I might be worrying over nothing, but this is unusual behavior for her. Does anyone have any suggestions as to a cause and whether or not I need to be concerned?

Snakes will sometimes stop eating and go into hiding several weeks before their eyes cloud over. I've had snakes hide for a month without eating waiting on them to shed.

Also - your snake burrows because you give her that option. If she couldn't burrow, she'd find somewhere else to hide. That's just the way snakes are. They like to hide.

when did she last eat? Has she since pooped? About how big is she? And how long since her last shed?

You can try to feed her on her regular schedule, but just understand, she may refuse it. If she does, just throw it out and wait for her to shed.

She ate last Monday, and I haven't seen poop, but it could be under her bedding. She's
~32 inches and it has been a while since her last shed. I don't have a date, but I suspect ~2 months. Thank you again for the help!

my snake is also about 32 inches. He's currently in shed mode too. It should be any day now. I've had him about 9 months and this will be his 4th shed since I got him. So I'm going to guess that your snake is getting ready to shed. But it could take a while.
