Proper tub size for adults

I am possibley going to purchase a rack for my corns. The problem is that it only holds 15qt tubs, which are big. But would the be big enough for adult corns? I dont want to buy this rack then have to buy another one. Im not a big breeder in anyway, more of a hobbyist. Any responses would be great, hopefully possitive ones.

For adults, I would not go with a tub smaller than 28qt. 32 or 41 qt. would be better yet.
Sterlite stopped making the 32qt tub that many racks were designed for. I building my racks at the time the 32 qts disappeared from the shelves. So I have one rack that holds 10 32qt and 14 28 qt tubs.
Here is a pic of the racks I built

Do I spy an empty spot on that rack? tsk tsk,lol Very nice D.I.Y I only wish I ere that skilled.

Oh, I feel your pain. I wouldn't even be able to make a sloppy chair without breaking a couple fingers... And a lot of help from my dad's carpenter friend... =/

But, yes, very nice racks!

Anyway, Slipmattic, 15 qts will work fine for the first couple years of a snake's life, but you will want something bigger for adults. =)

My corns outgrow 15 qt containers at about 18 months my kings and rat snakes sooner than that. Reptile Basics has a 32 qt rack that you can put dividers in so you do not have to buy two different racks.

Those spots are reserved. I have Zag-Tec Corns coming from Kjun (here on the site)
Candy Cane Corns from Don at SMR. and butter stripes coming!! not to mention some hold backs of my own this year!
Hey,... come to think of it, Maybe I should build another rack,... sounds like I may need another......;)

I was looking at the rack from AP, the economy rack. The down side is its not enclosed so there for its not going to hold heat very well. I dont have a snake room, so temps are kind of an issue. Im going to probabley just pay a local person to build me one as he does good work, and im poor with cabnetry.

The AP Economy rack is great! Quite a few of us on the forum own them. The open sides allow for easy viewing without having to pull the tub out. I'm not sure about holding heat, but my AP rack with FlexWatt and a decent thermostat only fluctuates from 84.7-85.1. The only down side is that the Economy rack used the discontinued 32 quart tubs that Old_School mentioned. They have started making it with Rubbermaid and Iris tubs now, so you might want to email them and see what they can do for you.

Old School and Josh,

Sterilite makes a 32 qt with locking hinges on the ends. While I haven't gotten one and compared it to my old 32's they look to be about the same size, Target sells them. Have you checked them out yet?

They're just different enough to be a pain in the butt. I think they are a half inch shorter and a little wider than the old tubs. And with the AP 15/32 rack, the handles would have to be removed so they can slide in sideways. :shrugs:

Wal-Mart also sells the 32qt tubs with the handles. I used a bakers rack, with heat cable below the tubs which worked alright. But i want an actual rack....basically the best deal for my money...i may have one built im not to sure.

this may be a dumb question but how do the snakes breath in the tubs?

Most racks are built so the lid isn't put on the tub...the shelf above acts as the lid to keep the snake contained. Even if the lids are left on, they aren't air tight. Also, air holes are usually melted or drilled into the sides of the tub to help with air circulation.
