Question about my corns boul movement

SnakesOfCorn

New member
I had my corn out just a few minutes ago and all the sudden I noticed he had a drip comming from his "area" (not sure the correct name on a snake) and also some poop LOL. I guess he feels comfortable with me now at least ! Haha :roflmao:

My question isn't so much about that though....as he was going I noticed a little red thing popping out slightly...I think. It that what would be considered a snake's penis ??

If it were female there would have been nothing popping slightly out correct ?

I am extremly interested to know this as I'd like to know the sex of my snake.

Thanks in advance for any insight, SC :santa:

That area of a snake is called the vent (but cloaca is the more technical term). It serves as the opening for the digestive, urinary and reproductive tracts. The little red thing you saw popping out is most likely one of the penises in a male snake (they are called hemipenes as male snakes have 2 of them - one on each side of the vent). I would say with 99% accuracy that your snake is a male. However, if one were to "pop" a female hatchling a bit too aggressively, they can also pop out a tiny red thing, but it is much smaller than the male's hemipenes. "Popping" is the method of sexing young hatchling snakes where experienced keepers apply pressure to the area just below the vent to "pop out" the hemipenes of a male. If they pop out, the hatchling is sexed as a male. If none pop out, it is tentatively called a female, but experienced keepers know enough to try again another time, usually a total of 3-4 times, because there can be alot of human error involved.
