Question for Black Milk owners

Suzy

Shazoooooo!
I've been meaning to ask this, but I keep forgetting. Since it's on my mind now, I'll ask! :)
I've got an '08 male Black Milk, and I've had him since October. Since getting him, I've noticed that he has a scent about him. Initially, I thought it was something from the breeder's house, but he's still got that scent 6 months later. It's kind of hard to explain, but at best I'd say it's a sweet musky smell.
My question is, do any of you who own Black Milks have snakes that smell like that? Or is it just my oddball? If you do, why do they smell like this? My only thought would be to deter predators or something like that.
I know it's a weird (and possibly stupid) question, but I'm not afraid to look stupid at the expense of getting an answer. :)
Thanks, guys!

Mine does have a different smell to him, different than my corns and balls. I guess it is a little sweet smelling now that i smelled him again hahaha.

Hmm. I've raised them for years and never noticed. I'll run and smell one.

no I had that as well with mine.. he had a unique smell to him compared to my other snakes.

That's interesting. Do you have any idea as to why they have that, or no?

The interesting thing is my Corn doesn't smell like anything. I really notice it with my milk, though.

LOL - the vision on that just made me laugh. Thanks for checking! :)

I've noticed that general smell with my Black Milks and most of my Kings. Obviously, just about everything we keep has the ability to musk, but I've never met any species that like to musk more than Milks or Kings. Maybe thats why, or maybe its psychological... just knowing they're muskers may make them smell muskier, who knows.

I do know that, still being young, my 08 Black Milks still sometimes gape their cloacas in a "threat to musk" way, but never actually let loose. Perhaps thats the source.

So your answer is yes, I've noticed it too.
