Question for those that ship reptiles...

Have any of you ever used a tip & tell label? Would this be beneficial when shipping a reptile? They are about a $1.00-$1.25 per device.

I guess I pack mine so they would be okay no matter how the box is oriented, and so they can't shift around.

Would FedEx _care_ if they tipped the box? So what if they did? What are you going to do about it?? Would the label make them more careful, or would they experiment with it, to see how it worked? You couldn't pin it on any one person, anyway. The box must go through many hands...

Cool idea, I think, but Nanci has some good points. It may prove it got tipped at some point in the process, but the best would be for the breeder to pack it so that the animal is ok regardless.

I'm a newbie, I do not breed snakes & I've never shipped any. I have ordered one, & when she arrived, the FedEx driver was holding the box on it's side, when she brought it out of the truck, so I'm just glad that she was packaged securely.

Undoubtedly the snakes would still need to be well packed, but I am just wondering if this label device would possibly help ensure a "more gentle" handeling. These are not new devices, they have been around awhile. They are available from a variety of sources, and there are others that tell whether the box was dropped, too. These are available in different ratings...

As Nanci suggests though, there may be someone that JUST HAS to try to "activate" the device...:shrugs:

I am just thinking these may help, as I have noticed that boxes marked "insured" seem to get handled more gently then those that are not.

I wouldn't waste my money on such devices. The carriers don't give a darn how they handle the boxes. We ordered lab equipment for bloodwork that cost around $15,000. The box had all sorts of huge labels about what was in it and to be extremely careful handling it. We were excited to get the equipment so when the truck pulled in, we all watched as it was unloaded...by being literally dropped off the back of the truck. You could hear things breaking from 30 feet away. Needless to say, it didn't get any further. We told the driver to pick the box back up and send it right back. I think he lost his job because of that mistake.

I pack my snakes so that they could withstand being used as a soccer ball. They do just fine.

Nice label, but carriers could give a rats tush how that box turns up at your door. Save your money:)
