question on "EGG"

popcorn

Popcorn w/ extra "BUTTER"
i have a butter corn(female). well the question is ..eventaully she will lay eggs ,right? if i don't have a male with her, the eggs will not contain babies

my question is....do snakes get their periods too?? what should i do when it happens in the future? any tips?? sorry for this stupid question. i am still a beginner plus i think i just got a Female butter....not sure hopefully is male...so i don't have to worry thanks

when your snake has her period, you need to go to the pet store and buy mini snake sized tampons...

just kidding. but seriously. why do you post this crap.

Some female snakes will ovulate and lay unfertilised eggs (slugs), but equally may just reabsorb them inside their body. Snakes, like other reptiles, don't have periods. Female mammals come into season, like dogs, and may lose a little blood. I don't think it's actually called 'periods' unless you're talking about people.
I don't think your questions were stupid, but a book such as Kathy Love's might be a good investment :)

what i mean is will they lay unfertilised eggs ? how often? and what should i do by the time? i am sorry for the silly question...but i just wanted to make sure....thanks again

It's not silly. If your snake's lower half swells up and she shows signs of wanting to lay the slugs, just put a lay box in. My snake Pearl laid an unfertilised clutch last year without me even realising she had them. In retrospect I should have realised because she went off her feedjust as she had when she was gravid with her first, fertilised clutch. She laid the slugs in her substrate.
As I said before, Kathy Love's book, the comprehensive owners' guide, will answer a lot of your questions and make looking after your snake easier for you:)

This was rude and uncalled for... this person was asking a question because she really wanted to know.

When I saw this post, I thought to myself, actually this was some really good questions. Questions that I didn't know the answers to either. So I really wanted to know the answers too when I saw this. Back a few months ago my ball python excreted some fluid and I asked the forum what it was. It had a little blood in it and I was a little worried. When I saw this thread I thought well maybe this person seen what I saw that time. So I really wanted to see what people said to this question.

When someone asks questions on this forum they don't need this kind of reaction. It's very hard to ask questions like this to begin with and when you get a reaction like you did, it definitely makes the person go somewhere else for information next time they have a strange question.

So try and be a little more understanding when you see someone new trying to get answers to questions they don't know about. You were new to this once too. How would you feel if someone made you feel stupid after asking a question like this that's hard enough asking it to begin with?

Thanks,

Lil. :)

PS. Popcorn, I don't have the answers to your questions but Diamondlil is definitely someone that I take advice from when I have any questions that I need answers to. :) Good luck with your snake.

That is very interesting. I learn something new everyday thank you Diamondlil. I always look forward to your posts. I love all of your advice. In the next month or so I really really want a Silverqueen. They are so beautiful. But I'm trying my hardest to get all the information I can about corns until then. I own a ball python right now, and it's my sons but secretly she's my pride and joy. I love her to death lol. I spend more time with her than my son does.

Lil. :)

Lil, I started off with a background of having kept lots of different pets and bred a few as a hobby over the years, in the dark days before the internet(!) and rehabbing quite a few fledgling wild birds. In order to learn 'how to' took trudging to my local libraries, hours in the reference section, and then personal experience.
When I ran into problems with my now fat and happy former non-feeder, I had an incredible amount of help and support from this site. When poor Pearl had problems egg-laying because she was disturbed, again I had help and support from here.
There are people here with far more expertise and experience than me, what I love about this site is that generally there are people willing to put themselves out in helping each other, to answer worries, make suggestions or just commiserate when things go wrong :)

I totally agree...

I love coming here. There are so many people on here willing to help when someone has a problem or just needing advice. Yes, before the internet, I would go to the library and read up on whatever I needed at the time. When I got my Rottweiler 8 years ago (I had to put him to sleep after Christmas of 06' because he got something called "Bloat") I went to the library and got books on dogs and books on Rottweillers and read up for days. Yes, we are dinosaurs lol... we didn't get the internet until 3 years ago hahahaaaa...

But I like to read up on whatever I get and still it's not enough, I still have to ask dumb questions sometimes lol.

But I love coming here to just read all the funny things that happen to people and all the other stuff on here too lol. :) You are definitely one of my favorites though, thank you lol

Lil. :)

thanks diamond~ you helped me a lot !now i am not worry about my snake as much as before! i will take a loook at her web site or find some other useful books thanks! by the way, i work in a pet store, they have a snake up for adoption...i just took it home, now i have a butter corn...and an Albino kingsnake...i think it is a striped one...thanks~~

I want to add to what Janine said by including that your female may not lay eggs either. Females won't automatically lay eggs just because they're females. I even think it would be more uncommon for it to happen, especially if they haven't had the experience of breeding. :) If she does end up carrying slugs, there's a good chance you won't readily notice and they'll get laid in the tank at some point, but no real matter as they're infertile anyway.

so...you mean that they proberbly won't even lay eggs at all? if they do lay eggs, any special care for them ?? i don't think i am gonna breed her...thanks

If she's not bred, there's a good chance she won't even lay eggs. If she isn't bred, AND she develops eggs there's a good chance she'll either reabsorb them or lay them. If she lays them there's nothing that will make the situation better or worse other than making sure she continues to eat. You probably won't notice as slugs generally don't develop and get larger like fertilized eggs do. If she isn't bred and still lays eggs, there's nothing special you'd have to do for the eggs as they're unfertilized.

IF you are deciding to breed her, I'd recommend you do a lot more research before taking that giant step.
