I currently have my tank set up in a room with an A/C unit in it. It is not a very large room (or a very large A/C), but I tend to have the A/C on for pretty much all day every day. This is only since I have had a snake in this room, as the regular air temperature ranges from 72-85 degrees here during the summer.
My question is this: Considering my Air Conditioner is on most of the day (set at 77-78), is my tank too cold? There is a heating pad and a thermostat set up, and that keeps the glass where the probes are stuck at 85-88 (for the most part). However, with the A/C cranking it makes the rest of the tank about 78 degrees. Considering that all the glass except for one little spot is effected by the AC, my snake has only one "obvious" choice to hang out that will be 80 + degrees (the other spot up on a piece of grape vine where he curls up to sleep near the top of my tank).
The reason I constantly run my A/C is to provide a "cool side" (72-75 would be best but 77-78 is the best I can do). However, I am concerned that what I have created is a whole tank that is 77-78 with a "warm spot" which is at the most 88 degrees on the glass, and maybe 80-83 on the toip of the substrate (or the hide on the warm side of the tank which is located right above the middle of my UTH).
I know that snakes have the potential to thermoregulate, but my concern is that my snake prefers the hide on the cool side (I would move it over to the warm side but it is kind of a big bulky 3 in 1 hide/shed box deal and I don't know that it would really transfer heat that well if it was on the warm side.
I didn't mean for this to be this long, but if anyone has faced similar issues and have insight I am all ears.
