I am thinking about getting a '07 normal from a lady. My question is she stated that he has not been handled very much, how hard is it to get them used to being handled? Also she said that he does not like to be picked up out of the cage, can you change that or is that the way it will always be. Also if these things can be changed what steps do I need to do? Please help I want to make sure maybe I rescue him. (he has a stumpy tail from a bad shed when he was younger) thanks for you help in advance

You might find that he doesn't mind being handled, maybe it was the owner. I got my snake from a man that was "given" a snake by his son when he left for college. The guy said she was "skittish" and he didn't handle her much. We have never had a problem with her, she's quite docile and calm.
If there is a problem it may be correctable by conditioning , but I've seen people post that their snake never liked handling.
And welcome!

Hi Sarah. Welcome! I just got a snake (in March) from a breeder, (in MN also) that wasn't handled very often due to a busy breeder; (some have to worry about getting all of their snakes fed and vivs cleaned before handling hatchlings). This snake was hardly ever handled and was very "wormy" when we first got him. The more we handle him, the better he gets. He just wasn't used to people. He never thought about biting or anything, just very squirmy. I always thought of him the way I would thing a baby hatchling would be. (I'll find out soon enough since our eggs are due to pip soon.)
I, personally, wouldn't worry too much about it, if you like the snake. Let us know what you decide, okay?

Hi Sarah :wavey: welcome to the forum

I agree that with proper care, the snake will become more adjusted to being handled.

Keep us updated.

Welcome!
I currently have 3 07 hatchlings and 2 08 hatchlings and 3 sub adults. My month old is very squirmy, but has not bit me yet. My 07's are still very quick, but have not bitten me either yet. They get better the more they are handled. My sub adults are great, very docile. They like to run through my hands and sometimes coil round my hand and sit and watch the world go by. The more a snake is handled the more it get used to it. Keep us posted on whether you take this corn on and post some pics if you do.

Good for you Sarah! I'm sure you'll love him! Amanda over at www.twistedserpents.com is great and so are her snakes! Yes, I have to boast about her when ever I get the chance. Please be sure to post pics when you can, okay? And I also would like to echo the statement of "Yay, another snake owner!" As they said to me, welcome to your new addiction. Ha ha. Little did I know how true that was...........
