hi. i am thinking of getting a corn in the very near future. heres what i know:

1. need an undertank heating pad for 1 end of cage
2. need a 20 gal or bigger tank for adults.
3.feed mice every 7-10 days
4. do not handle until 48 hrs after feedings.
QUESTIONS:
1. how many mice do i feed per feeding?
should they be alive, or frozen?
2. do corns like a lrg bowl of water in their cage to soak in?
3. what bedding should i use?
4. do they need a hide ?

thnx for all your help sorry i keep asking dumb questions! :)

In answer to your questions:

1. It depends. People will often feed two pinkies to their babies when they get a bit bigger than they were as hatchlings. Normally I wouldn't feed more than two items at a time. If your snake can handle three items of one size, you might as well move up to the next size bigger.

2. Some corns like to soak in their water, others don't. Mine likes to when he's preparing to shed. When you have a hatchling don't give it a deep bowl of water as it could drown. Still it should be large enough that the snake can rest in it.

3. There are some options for bedding. I use aspen and can recommend it. It's pretty absorbant, reduces odor somewhat, and snakes like tunneling through it. It also looks nice.

4. Yes, they definitely need a hide. A corn snake will be stressed without a good place to hide. A hide will make your snake feel more comfortable and relaxed. Optimally you should have two hides; one on the warm side and one on the cool side.

Happy to help. :)

1. need an undertank heating pad for 1 end of cage
2. need a 20 gal or bigger tank for adults.
3.feed mice every 7-10 days (you can feed 4-5 days for hatchlings but remember not too much since this will cause 'power feeding' (this is when the head and body ratio doesn't match and this would reduce the life expectancy of the snake)
4. do not handle until 48 hrs after feedings.
yes these are all correct, but rememeber to get a temperature and humidity measurer....okay?

QUESTIONS:
1. how many mice do i feed per feeding?
well for hatchlings 1-2 pinkies every 4-5 days is good enough....for adult corns, 2-3 mice per feeding (every 7-10 days)

should they be alive, or frozen?
they should be frozen or else they might end up looking like this photo as Serpwidgets posted up, a few posts before this.

2. do corns like a lrg bowl of water in their cage to soak in?

yes they love to bath in water bowls especially when it's time to shed. So the larger the better, but then remember for hatchlings, too deep could drown them and cause death so remember not too deep.

3. what bedding should i use?

I woudl recommand aspend bedding. But other people on this forum will say something else. Some people use news paper or paper towl, but just as long as it's easily cleanable. I'd say go for it.

4. do they need a hide ?
YES they do need a hide. It's better to have a hide on the cooler end and the warm end. This is so that they can regulate their body temperature.

if you have any more questions just post them and we'll try to help you out as much as possible!

don't be silly, none of the questions are stupid.......
it's better to ask questions than not to ask.

Hope this helped,
Good luck and Happy Herping!:D

geez you all pretty much jumped on all his questions what can i say their all right... but i would really recommend getting the corn snake book... writen by the Love's they know alot about corns and will help you understand your corn... when you get him/her

corny...

not to be rude but im a "she"! lol

dont worry i'll be sure to get the book! it seems like everyone on this board has it. thnx for all ur help! ;0)

ps, if you feed frozen mice remember to make sure they are fully defrosted otherwise your snake will either refuse it or regurgitate it! A good rule of thumb: the mouse should be roughly at your own body temp so defrost slowly and NOT in a microwave....I tried that once....very messy and you could end up with cooked mice!!
Have fun with your new snake!

Lol Rachel..
That hasn't happened to me but I put them in a mug of water and nuke 'em for a few secons when I'm in a rush. otherwise I fill a cup with hot water and just leave the mouse in for a bit..usually 15 mins. (It's only pinkies for now..)
