QUICK DIGESTION?

FARTICUS

Ok, so i just purchased an Amel about a month old today. (got it on sunday)
I forgot to ask when was the last time it ate, so i decided to see if it was hungry that night. it ate no problem. (not off the thongs, but about 2 minutes after i left it in the tank.) it got the pinky about 1/2 to 3/4 down its body, so i figured all was ok. in the morning, it looks like it pooped it out already. and this morning (tuesday) there were little bits of poop inthe cage also. now im thinking it actually passed it through its body like it should, but is that too fast? should i feed it more than one pinky? or is it possible that it regurgitated it? tank temps are good, and the snake is active at night. any thoughts?

Not to sound gross but the morning after feeding it what did what you think is feces look like? How big was it? At that age the feces is rather small so if what you saw was not that small it could have been a regurge, hard to tell without more info. It would not have digested it that fast I do not think but that is not to say it was not pooping out a previous feeding. Leave it alone, don't even handle it for a few days. Give it some time to settle in. As far as knowing how much to feed it and how often, a lot of people go by the Munson feeding plan. I copy and pasted it below. Also here is a link to Kathy Love's caresheet for when you first recieve your corn. http://www.cornutopia.com/Corn Utopia on the Web/- CARE SHEET Cornutopia corn snakes cornsnakes.htm If it does turn out that it was a regurge click on the first thread under this topic titled Health Issues / Feeding Problem FAQ, if you scroll down you will find a good article by Kathy Love on what to do if you had a regurge. Hopefully it was not and all is well. For the Munson Feeding plan if you do not have a scale to weigh your snake on I picked up a digital kitchen scale at Walmart for like $20.

-When they're on single pinks (2-3g), I feed every 5-6 days. (Snake = 4-15g)
-Double pinks (3g x 2) every 5-6 days. (Snake = 16-23g)
-Small fuzzies (5-7g) every 6-7 days. (Snake = 24-30g)
-Regular fuzzies (7-9g) every 6-7 days (Snake = 30-50g)
-Hoppers (9-12g) every 6-7 days (Snake = 51-90g)
-Weaned (14-20g) every 7 days (Snake = 91-170g)
-Adult (20-30g) every 7-x days (Snake = 170+) See below.

Note: Adult females are fed more frequently than adult males (especially following brumation). Adult females are fed every 7-12 days; adult males are fed every 11-14 days.

This is by no means scientific, and not all corns will cooperate 100% with the schedule. The weight ranges I gave for the prey and snakes are approximate.

What you were probably seeing was poo from the last meal. If it still looked somewhat like a pinky, it is most likely a regurgitation.

It is probably a previous feeding. I wouldnt let it worry you. Most of my snakes poo 2-3 days after a meal. I would just document the fact on a calender and keep some good records just in case it truely is an issue. And Congrats on the snake.
