Quick question before I order mice

blueturtle

Aida's the name!
I have a 11.5g corn and was considering ordering some mice online to save on time, money, and nerve:rolleyes: since the local pet stores only sell live for about $2 no matter the size.

Since I am a new owner, I'm using the Munson Plan as a guide. Currently its eating a Pink of about 2g. I only have the one snake to feed and wanted to order Pinks, Fuzzy, and Hoppers. I was just unsure of how many to order of each size before it would need to move up a size. For example, how many pink feedings before it would need a Fuzzy and so on.

I was thinking about getting 50 of each size. Is that too much or should I order more of a certain size? I dont want to be short on any of the pinks or fuzzies but I also don't want a big surplus either.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

it will mostly depend on your snakes growth, some grow slower, some faster.

the only thing i would worry about is how long it would take you to go threw 150 feeders.

i bag of 50 pinkies will last you around 4 months if not longer, to avoid the rest getting too old i would probably just get the 50 pinkies then when you get low then decide wether you need to upsize or not.

Mysfitz, You're right. A bag of 50 pinks would take me roughly 4 months to get through. That is, of course, if everything runs smoothly and she eats every 5 days.

As far as the other 100 mice going bad before being able to finish the pinks, I'll have them all vaccum sealed to preserve them as much as possible. I've read on here of other's success doing that as well.

I just think it'd be easier and cheaper if I buy more at a time because of the shipping price. Especially since I don't know anyone near me who owns a snake and buys online to split an order with.

Would a pack of 25pinks be better off than a 50 pack? Does that sound like enough pink feedings so I'm not short handed before needing fuzzies?

I understand that snakes all grow at different rates but a ballpark number could help me out in determining the best way to spend my money on feeders.

Thanks! :spinner:

I order from The Mouse Factory. They offer pinks in packs of 50. Rodentpro only offers packs of 100.

I would order 50 pinks. At some point you will start feeding your snake 2 of them. Then go with 25 fuzzys and 25 hoppers. That should last you a while.

Rich, I was considering ordering from TMF or Big Cheese. I was just unsure of what quantities to order. Thank you for your input.

If anyone else would like to throw in some suggestions it'd be greatly appreciated! :D

It's hard to say, but definitely no more than 50 of each size, assuming a healthy, feeding corn snake.

I'd probably be more prone to just order 25 pinks, but with shipping as high as it is it might be better to err on the side of caution and get 50.

If you get too many you can always get another corn snake :)

Flagg, I was going to say the exact same thing! Great minds, eh? :)

Blueturtle, this is such an easy problem to fix. Really, it is!
Just get 3 more hatchlings, then order 100 pinkys.
:)

 I would really like to get one more but I think this is all I will be able to have, for now. I'm currently living with my parents again, and my dad doesn't exactly know I have this one yet. I am in no way hiding her as the viv is in plain site, but he hasn't studied the tank enough to catch her while she's out exploring.

He won't make me give her up just because I already have her and spent time and money on her, but he wouldn't approve of any more. He's one of those that is dead set on "snakes are evil:angry01:". It has alot to do with all those stories on the News of owners with those Ginormous Pythons escaping and eating their dog:grabbit: or biting a child:eek:. Bad rep for sure with my dad! My plan is to slowly convert my family to atleast be okay with snakes and trusting of the one I own. :spinner:

Okay, does everyone think that for one snake this would be enough:
50 small pink
25 fuzzy
25 hoppers

I can't get anything smaller than a pack of 50 pinks. As far as the fuzzy and hoppers go, would 25 of each be enough?

I would be putting this order in tomorrow as it is payday. Right before I hit the mall....to pay bills....:bang:

25 should definitely be enough for each stage until they outgrow them.

Just keep them vacuum sealed completely until you need them, and they'll last at least a year.
