Raising humidity

My snake recently had a problem with a build up of uric acid which caused a lump he eventually passed out as a chalky white poo.
This, I was told was due to dehydration. The expert I spoke to suggested that I need to raise the humidity in the viv as well as have the usual water bowls. The snake can, I believe, absord moisture through the cloaca. Anyway, he suggested putting some sphagnum moss in the viv in his hide so he is always in a very moist atmosphere.

A couple of questions;
Is sphagnum moss safe - ie; viruses, bacteria etc?
What is a good alternative - at the moment I am using paper twoels soaked in water but these are not ideal and are just a short term solution.
What about those spngy "oasis" things you use for flower arranging?

Any advice appreciated.

The moss should be okay as long as it's kept elimination free (poop, etc) You could laso go with a bigger water bowl and cover part of the top to trap in more of the moisture. I wouldn't suggest useing the flower arrangemant stuff not knowing what it is actually made of.
