Ranco, Johnson, or BAH1000?

So i've had my corn for almost a week. His temps are usually in the ideal range(80-85), but not without checking every 15 minutes. I'm using a dimmer right now and I have to constantly think about if my house heat rises and my tank's temp flies up. Also sometimes after a cold morning here in NY, I wake up to see the warm side temps at 74-75 and have to spend time dialing it in for the next half hour. I am looking into purchasing a thermostat when I get paid(friday) and at first was going to get the repti temp500r, then thought hey 15 bucks more I could have a BAH1000, then after reading on a ball python forum that the relays in the bah are bad I am looking into the johnson and ranco digital thermostats. I'm leaning toward the ranco or johnson, but is there any difference?(they look almost identical) $79.99 isnt that bad to feel at ease that my little guy isnt frying.:realhot:

Honestly, fluctuations in temperature are perfectly fine for your corn snake! You'll stress less if you just set the dimmer to where the temps stay around 85F and leave it there. If the temps get to 75F overnight/in the morning, that's fine. Just think of how their surrounding temperatures would be in the wild ;) Also, 85F is a good temp, because even if your house does get warmer, it shouldn't raise the temps in there too much. Just my opinion, I know that thermostats/rheostats come recommended by a lot, so this is my money-saving suggestion :D

I like the Herpstat, regular or night drop. I don't actually use the night drop feature, but that model has some other features I do like. I have two of the new (current) BAH 1000's, and one has failed on me.

I use a Herpstat for my Ball Python rack, and it's been very reliable so far! On my other forum I've heard many complaints about the BAH1000, so I'd stay away from that one... either of the other two should be fine.

For my Corn I use a Lutron light dimmer right now, and it does the job even in my cold house. I'll switch him over to the spare ZooMed thermostat next month, when my new BP is out of quarantine - since she's using it now. I wouldn't recommend the ZooMed, however, even though it's really cheap and works fine... it just has this annoying CLICK whenever it adjusts (frequently), which is a problem if they're housed in your living space. :uhoh:

Oh... for some reason I thought you asked about the Herpstat, LOL. I don't know much about the Johnson thermostat, but the Ranco always gets thumbs-up from other herp owners.

I love my Ranco and my BAH1000 so far, but had both lsss than a year. The Ranco model I got was prewired and has 6 outlet slots while the BAH1000 only has 3.

I have a Ranco and its a really good thermostat. I had an issue once with it not turning on, but there was a reset button in the housing that I just had to switch and it worked fine again. Otherwise, I still use it and its pretty reliable. I like proportional thermostats better though, so I also have a herpstat and am very pleased. I will probably get another one during their Thanksgiving sale.

I only have 1 snake(at the moment), but I am definately going to upgrade to a thermostat for security. Right now with the feedback I'm leaning toward the ranco, although if I throw a little more money in I could get the proportional herpstat...hmmm decisions decisions. How much does the price drop during their thanksgiving sale?

The price drops about $10 on the lower end models. (The ones you would be interested in). The nice thing about proportional is they hold a steadier temp, and to use the thermostat, you just set your temp and that's it. No changing a dial, letting the UTH warm up for a few hours, checking the temp, moving the dial a little bit, waiting a couple hours, checking the temp...(That drives me crazy! I just want it to be right, the temp I want, right now!)
