Rash from snake?

I was at a pet store about six months ago and I got musked by a milk snake. I wiped it off but didn't clean it properly, I was heading right home and figured I would do it then which I did about 25 minutes later. A few weeks later I got a rash on my finger right where I was musked. I treated it with prescription cream thinking it was just eczema. It went away but a few weeks later it came back. I keep getting rid of it and it keeps coming back in the very same spot. Just a small spot on the bottom of my index finger where I was musked. Could this rash have anything to do with that musk from the milk snake? I have spoken to my family doctor as well as another one. They don't know what it is. Maybe it's time for a skin specialist.

Barring a new case to science of zoonosis, it's safe to agree with Nanci.

Just to be safe, it would probably be a good idea to see a dermatologist. He or she can take a skin scraping and cultures for fungal or bacterial infection.

I would agree that it's not from the snake, but I would have questioned it as well, if that happened to me.

A friend of mine is allergic to the aspen bedding, and always gets really red and itchy after she touches my corn. I doubt an aspen allergy could have held on for a week and then suddenly showed up - it's probably something else, like Nanci said.

Could it be that you are alergic to something?

I am allergic to a few things and I do get a little eczema(kind of rash) once n a while but it is just a small part of my finger in that one spot. It's totally different then anything I'm used to. The fact that it is so isolated and keeps coming in the same spot is the only reason I started to question what it really is. Any allergic reaction I have had that has lead to a rash is temporary and comes in more then one spot. It doesn't make sense for one small area that keeps coming back. It didn't make sense to the doctors either.

Something like aspen wouldn't be isolated to one small area at the base of one finger. I would have other problems if I kept touching something I was allergic too. It's time for a dermatologist.

If it's coming back long after exposure, probably not the snake.

I'm mildly allergic to corn saliva. If I get bit, the spot I got bit will swell up a lot, turn red, and itch like crazy. It gets worse as I've gotten older. I will even get a very mild reaction to getting tagged by hatchlings. Needless to say hatching season is bittersweet. Great b/c I hatch lots of babies, but not so great b/c babies tend to strike and bite a lot and my hands get quite splotchy and itchy!

So might be a reaction that's been sensitized, but I doubt it. Definitely go to the derm.
