Rat breeding question.....

 I was wondering if what my rats were doing was normal.... I have 1.2 rats in a cage... 1 had babies and has been raising them for about 2 weeks now... in the last couple of days I noticed that the other female has taken the babies and is raisingt them... she wont let the other mom take them back.. she bit her yesterday... Im thinking that the other one that stole the babies is now pregnant and her maternal instincts r kicking in ?? :shrugs: She has never had a litter 2 my knowledge, also, I am worried for the pups wheter she is producing milk... I dont want to go in there one day and find that they have starved to death. They are, however about 1 week or less from being weaned.... (fyi I dont have another cage to seperate the real mom and her pups) Plus, I cant handle the adults... it kinda freaks me out. :bang:

Also.... Yesterday, the male was bouncing around the cage all excited like and crawling around the one mom rat.... He was cleaning her and she kept squeaking.. Were they courting? I have never seen him do this before, so???
:shrugs:

Any advice would be highly appriciated! Thanks!

That's normal... My females do it all the time.. I had a new litter the other day of 11 and there is another female in there with her that has 2-3 under all the time lol.. They always do fine.. It helps it everyone once in a while you take te pups that are under the other females and put them back under the real mother. Just to make sure... But she will soon take a couple more soon enough lol
When the male is trying to breed the females it can be loud and sometimes the females will flop on to their back and stuff like that but they are usually just fine..
