Rattling Tail

Stewie has been rattling his tail lately and its ironically making me laugh because he thinks he's scaring me.
I haven't been taking him out of the cage lately cause of um..life...but i still feed his one adult mouse every week.
But everytime i open his cage to take him to feed him...he starts to rattle his tail and then once i put him in the tub to eat..he snatches the food and attacks it like his life depends on it, coils himself around the mouse and its it in 3 min....and throughout the eating process he keep rattling his tail...
i understand conrsnakes rattling when they feel threatened or stressed....but why during feeding?

Feeding is a vunerable time, the snake has a mouth full of mouse,so it's main defence is out of commision, and it can't escape any danger fast because it's eating! so tail-rattling as a 'stay-away' warning makes sense

rattler

Tell me about it i have only been a corn ownerfor 6 days and was amazed to here my newbie do this yesterday when i went in to change her water
i was startled to hear it as it was loud in the dim light room

Five corns and I have never seen this.....Id loved to see what it looks like...

I can't believe none of yours do it! Big Jake the Florida King rattles when I get him out, and in his feeding bin. He even rattled my ear once. Lilee the corn is the best- she only rattles in her feeding bin, but all the time, and she sounds like a June Bug! You can't even walk within ten feet of her, much less look at her...Choco the Cali King will rattle in his feeding bin once in a while. Zee the Tri-Hog rattles in his feeding bin. Loco Taco the Nelson's Milk rattles the entire time I have her out. In slow motion. It is _so_ cute! That leaves only two that don't rattle ever, interestingly my only two LTCs.

You mean it makes a noise even though they dont have a rattle? Thats so weird.......The worst mine do when I picked them out, especially when they were new and not used to me, was fidget. Even the corn that bite me, never rattled......how boring LOL I take them out and they just sit there like a bump on a log.

when mine rattled his tail for the first time, he striked at me, iv bin slighly scared of it eva since,

i pick him up now and then, but when he rattles his tail i tend to leave him alone :sidestep:

iv just gotta get ova the fear :eek1:

It makes a noise when they rattle against stuff. Like in the wild, dried leaves or whatever. Rattlesnakes just modified their scales to be even better at it!

Both of mine rattle, and its really noisy as they are adults! Jake doesn't do it much anymore as he is well used to me by now and the only time he rattles is perhaps when I move his feeding box are watch too closely while hes eating!

Electra seems to hiss at me alot too, the main thing is to not let it put you off handling them. If they think they are getting away with being big mean scary snakes, they will always do it!

snow corns are know to be more agressive becuase of there colour. I found that the best way to stop them biting is to let them bite because they will soon realise you will not heart them
