reasons for a mean corn

I know someone that has a corn that is just plan mean...he strikes at him everytime he tries to get him. Is it feeding issues, needs more handling, feeding in cage, etc.... I have told him not to feed them in the cage, he needs more handling and that he should use a hook to get him out. He will settle down when he is not in his cage. Thanks in advance...

I am willing to wager that said keeper feeds his snake by hand rather than with a pair of forceps?
Meaning the the little snake expects a meal every time he smells and sees the handler's hand.
Some baby corns are just hissy, they get over it as they mature- more handling and making sure the snake has enough "space"(hide-out and enough quiet alone time) should do the trick

I don't know I do have one that no amount of handling seems to make him settle down. He was a surplus adult from serpenco and wasn't handled much as a hatchling (at least I don't think Rich would have had the time to do so) he has bitten me, positively hates to be picked up and spends the whole time while being held trying desperately to get away and thrashing. I am glad most corns aren't like that. But I do feel there are a few out there that are not going to get tame no matter what.

Is the snake in question a female. I know my wife is just plain mean. She was born that way. I’ve seen her make little kids cry just by looking at them. She strikes at me every time I try to get her too. I thought more handling would calm her down a little. Boy was I wrong there. Whoever thought it would be a good idea to feed her out of her cage needs to think that through a little better. I ain’t going to open that door.

Well first off you ARE CO-HABBING her!!! I mean you're not exactly a NOOB here...read the threads on this topic ASAP. Secondly: How often are you attempting to probe! This could be the main problem :nyah:

:-offtopicYou guys are seriously too funny!! I think there's a "special" humor with corn snake people. Others don't seem to think it's as funny, but I think it's completely hilarious!! Thanks for making me laugh out loud (for the second time on this thread).

No, this guy is a guy...lol. He does feed him in his cage and I have told him not to. Told him to go to Big Lot and buy a cheap sterlite container for feeding purposes only. This male is a full grown and was handled a lot by me when I owned it, but he is now aggressive. He just called me about an hour ago saying that he may just be hungry...lol! I told him that isn't the reason why he's aggressive(fed every sunday on adult mice). So, what I am trying to get at is that he is still feeding in cage, not using a hook to get him out, etc... He wants advice but down listen...I don't even know why he calls me. Sorry...just venting...

Where is he keeping the Corn's cage in the house? Is it possible that the tank/cage is in an area where that's a lot going on(loud tv or kids running around or tapping on the glass)?

I also asked him that because he has lots of kids. I asked him if the snake is in a high traffic area and he said "No, not really...kind off" Aaww...ok?! I gave him a bunch of advice but he isn't following it. So, there isn't anything I can do anymore...Thanks guys/gals!

You can bring a horse to water...
All you can do is give him advice. If the snake wasn't mean when you had it then either he is doing/not doing something to make it scared/mad, or the snake doesn't like him (his scent/vibe whatever). If he has kids, they could be teasing the snake. If he is uncaring/irresponsible enough to feed on bedding, then he may be neglecting the snake in other areas as well. It's sad.

Gentle and frequent handling is the key to both conversations occurring in this thread.

BTW I never use a hook.
