Ok...so...it isn't a cornsnake, but I thought maybe you guys could help me anyway. Sorry if I am posting in the wrong spot... Ok, so in June 2009, my Rosy Boa escaped from his habitat. Our house is not sealed very well and has a lot of spaces where he could get into the walls so I figured that is where he was. Well, we have in-floor heat so, when the weather started getting colder, I guess he decided the walls weren't so comfy anymore. I found him about 3 weeks ago (about the first week in December). He was a little cold and had some leftover shed still stuck on him, but other than that, he was fine. Obviously, he had found a few meals :) Anyway, he was always a very quiet snake...laid back...didn't really roam around his tank much...just happy to hang out in his hide or under his log. Since I found him, especially in the past week or so, I have noticed that he is ALWAYS on the move. When I get him out, he is continuously moving and isn't content to just sit like he was before. I maybe overreacting but, is it possible he is unhappy in captivity since he has had a taste of freedom? I thought maybe some of you that have had snakes disappear for this amount of time might have had some similar experiences. BTW, he is about 15 inches...I got him in like February or so. Today he has be especially active...might be because tomorrow is feeding day (once a week on saturdays). I am just feeling a tad guilty, like I ought to upgrade the size of his tank or something...Any input would be greatly appreciated :) Thanks!

Here are a couple of pics of my boy when I first got him...just because :)

My first thought is that he didn't find food and is roving around his tank trying to find some... snakes being snakes, they can go quite some time without eating before it becomes a serious issue. Feed him and see if the behavior persists.

I have fed him...3 times...and he seems to be getting more active. He was gone for about 6 months and when I found him, he wasn't the least bit skinny...we also have a small mouse problem, being out in the country, so I am pretty sure he did find some mouse nests in the wall while he was gone. I will continue his feeding schedule and see if his attitude changes, though. Thanks :)

Sounds like he's flipped into permanent hunting mode, having been out on his own and presumably having done that to survive.

Yeah, that is what I am thinking too. I just fed him today, and he is already trying to climb the side of the tank again.

I wonder if they get really active, hunting for a mate, like corns. And if that is why he came out of hiding.

He is essentially a new snake. Give him so time to settle in. He just needs to get comfortable with his new home.

You know, I never really thought of that...Good point though. I tell you what he does remember...the container I feed him in :) LOL
