Red eyes gender specific??

Sorry if this isn't the right place for a thread like this...
But I was wondering whether red eyes are gender-specific??
e.g. do all butters/snows/... have red eyes? All specimens of these subspecies that I've seen always have red eyes.
Or do the eyes turn black after some time?

All morphs that are the result of melanin production deficiency will exhibit said trait, regardless of gender, to a varying degree.
The trait "Amel" or "Amelanistic" which exists in all the morphs you mentioned and some others, means that the snake is incapable of producing any melanin.
Melanin is the black pigment, or "color" snakes have on their bodies, and the eyes.
When the deficiency is so severe that the snake is incapable of producing melanin at all- than the snake will have red eyes. Note that these snakes are sensitive to direct light and it should be avoided- at least minimize the periods of exposure and make sure there's a hide out in which they can hide.

Some genes such as the Ultra, hypo, lavander and others effect the amounts of melanin the snake is capable of producing, and the eyes gain a "ruby" sort of appearance. Soft reddish, but not totally red.

Nope, your first instinct is your best one.
Some morphs ALWAYS have red eyes.
In snakes they need to be probed or popped (or bred LOL) to know for certain.

Pretty much the only gender-specific red-eyed species I know of is Eastern Box Turtles. In that species, the males have red eyes and the females have brown.

about the gender-specific thing, I meant morph-specific but I thought that this is the same as gender, but of course it isn't :p
my mistake...

It's just that I'll be buying a snake pretty soon and was checking out the website of a local breeder, and there was a pic of a nice amel and a butter. But they both have red eyes (don't know if the pics are taken in the "shop" itself or just random pics of a certain species/morph). Because a butter with black eyes would be nicer than a red-eyed amel imo.... But I'll just have to see them when I'm going to buy 1 :) think it's going to be the amel though, although the butter's nice too... hahaha I really can't decide :D

I'd prefer butter myself but that's cause I like the color.
There -are- other morphs with terrific colors that do not include the amelanistic trait.
Not a whole lot of yellow ones though... oranges... well, there are hypo redbloods... some can get really red though, rather than orange.
And of course there the fire morph which really takes the orange to whole new levels.

Try and learn about the different morphs and grab whatever you prefer :)

That's why I'm attracted to the butter: you see a LOT of brown-red-orange corns, and butters are bit "special" :)
But some amels are beauties too!! :p
But then again some butters are also more brownish than yellow, which I think isn't as nice as the pale and bright yellow...

thanks anyway for enlightning me :p

thanks v_various! gold dust does look perfect!!
but I think I'd go with the butter anyway :) but it's not so sure that I'll even get a corn... due to situational complications...

thanks anyway! :)

Goldust in my opinion really are the best looking of the yellow type morphs. But they are more scarce, and cost quite a bit more.

yes this the main reason why I decided to go with the butter (or amel, haven't decided yet). the red eyes have a charm of their own :) and the local breeder has got butter anyway, and I think they're not too common as well
