I know theres alot of breeders on here who make a living on the sale of there snakes.
Well I got into Corns as a hobby just like most people here. Didn't intend to make this my living or a full time job. But I just had to breed my snakes, So I did.Went thru all the care time to doing the best for my snakes and eggs they produced. So I deciede to sell my babys when they were 1 week shy of 2 months. Now I sold them for $25. each real cheap. Figured Id make some kid and his family happy. Well on the issue about REFUNDS I sold this family one of my babies. He was well started eating F/t pinkys, So 3 weeks go by and im searching on a local merchandiser and come across some one who need help with a baby corn that wouldn't feed and they needed to find the person who sold them the snake. So I respond and found it to be my snake I had sold. This is my diliema . I tried to help theese people to get snake to feed . I offered to replace the snake or give them there money back and I asked them to return the snake.
My thing is what would you have done? Most breeders have a time limit on how long you have, on your purchase. And in this hobby some snake do go on hunger strikes and die.
Just wondering if anyone has had theese problems, and what every ones opion is on this matter Thanks

Everybody varies a little with their guarantees. I would say the average for an established hatchling is between 15 and 30 days. Some breeders are sticklers about their guarantees, others can be more flexable in certain situations. I even have different guarantees depending upon when the hatchling was purchased/if it was established or not, etc. You've done all that you could by offering help, a replacement or a refund. And you're right, no matter what, some are just not going to make it.

My written guarantee is only 7 days. BUT - I have either replaced, or given half credit, for snakes much, much longer than that, even months later, in rare cases. It depends on the customer, and how much he/she convinces me that he did everything right and really tried hard. If he / she didn't bother to follow the care sheet, didn't bother to call or email me before the poor thing went downhill too far to save, and didn't bother to go on a forum like this for help, or anything else, then I am less likely to bend the rules for that customer. In borderline cases, I find it helpful to offer another snake for half price. Then I am not really out much, if anything (I figure that is about what it costs to produce one), and the customer gets a really good deal - win- win.

If it was a local customer, and the snake was not too far gone, I would probably take it back and get it going again, and give them a different one. Unfortunately, most of mine are shipped, so that doesn't often work for me.

My terms says two weeks, but I'd be inclined to stretch that if I had good communication with the customer and they are letting me know of any issues right away. If I sold a snake that was eating well for me and refused to eat for the new owner I would have no problem refunding or replacing even if were past the two week guarantee period.
Quite different than having someone buy a snake and months later coming out of the blue with a problem. I would still try to help them get it going but less likely to give a refund or replacement at that point because of the long interim with no communication.

There's a person on my hoggy list who is sending her baby back to be "reconditioned" by the breeder! It hasn't been eating, and it was before, so apparently the breeder is going to take it back and get it feeding again. She has another from the same person that is doing fine, so apparently not husbandry.

I can imagine that it must be terrifying to be responsible for a tiny baby, and then it won't eat. The baby has a better shot with you, and I'd leave it up to the customer to decide if they want to wait for that baby to be back on track or try with a different one.

I took the baby back and gave them one that hasn't been a problem from day one. But they hope i can get this one back on track. Im hope I can too. Thanks for your responses.

Do what you can and definantly state your guarentee.. I think what you did was reasonable... Just try to find a good care sheet and make the suggestion for a book purcahse or two..
