Regurg vs Partially Digested Meal?

I went in to check on one of my yearlings after feeding them 4 days ago and found a pinky partially digested??? Its head was missing, it had somwhat of a body but it looks as though its missing alot of its body. I cant tell if it is a regurg or it a partially diegeted food. The problem is that this snake is very particular and will not feed unless he is in his spot. His spot seems a little chilly. I dont have a pic, I wish I did. Is it possible it was part digested and he pooped it out or do you think it is a regurg? Any advie would be apppreciated.

How did the "pinky" smell? If it had a really foul odor like nothing you've smelled before, then it is a regurge and you should treat your snake accordingly. If it did not have much of a smell or more of a poop smell, then I would go ahead and feed your snake again at his regularly scheduled time, but use a smaller than normal meal (at least 1/2) and wait to see if it happens again. If it does, then you know it was a regurge and proceed from there. If not, go back to normal feedings but monitor closely.

same happened to me a few days ago... but instead i could see the head of the pinky and a half digested body.... I took it and asked a lot of pet stores if it looked like a regurge for them and they siad that it looked like he did his thing(it didnt smell at all) and took some pictures of it and asked here on the chat if it was regurge and they said yes.... bottom line... i treated it as a regurge... its better to be safe than sorry... good luck!...

Susan, wouldn't you think that a partially digested pinkie could smell? If it is actually the soft tissue of the rodent and like any soft animal tissue, will begin to decompose and smell.

Wouldn't it be safer, just to assume it was a regurge and begin a post regurge therapy, rather than continuing a normal feeding regimen?

Just a thought,

I know with my second regurge as already mentioned it didn't smell and at first I wasn't sure, but if in doubt treating like a regurge can't hurt.

Let me give some more info. 1st, my snake ate the pinky butt first. Second, there was poop in the corner of his cage and looked like a light poop "streak" then laid the "pinky" The only reason I knew it was a pinky because that is what I fed it. It looked like everything was digested except for the skin and a tiny portion of the belly. The head was gone, the intenstines were gone and the "butt" end of the pinky was facing the poop. The head faced forward. I am pretty sure it was a poop but I never seen anything like that before. I fed him on Monday and there was nothing in his cage until Friday. Does this help at all? I have seen regurgs and poop but nothing like this. Do you think it may be the pinky might have been too big for him?

Regardless of which way the snake ate the pinkie, it will digest the same. I would say if it had been four days since your last feed, it was probably poop. But, and this is a big but! In the off chance it was a regurge, then when you go to feed your snake again, in 5-7 days or whenever that is, your snake could regurge again. Multiple regurges could be dangerous to your snake. I would, just to be safe, treat this as a regurge. The small meals won't hurt the snake and that way you could have just a little piece of mind.
