Regurg..

I've had my corn for 9 months, he's over two feet. I fed him last Monday, and afterward I had a feeling I overfed him. I normally feed him two fuzzies, could probably handle 3. It was totally my mistake, but I wasn't sure how much to feed him this time. I fed him 4 fuzzies in total and he looked pretty stuffed afterward, but he didn't regurgitate until this morning, which leads me to believe there is either a temperature problem in his terrarium or I disturbed him somehow. Or maybe I passed my cold onto him. Air temps are about 75F right now, the ground temp is probably warmer because I left the heating pad on for quite a while. It's been pretty warm in my apartment, usually around 75-80F in the room I keep him in. I'm really not sure if I overfed him because he regurgitated 10 days after his last feeding.

Anyway, how long should I wait to feed him? I think it will take him two or three weeks to heal from that. He only regurgitated two mice. Last week he defecated a day or two after feeding.

The fact that the regurge happened 10 days post feed shows you overfed him, methinks, as your temps seem fine. It shouldn't take longer for a corn than 3 or 4 days to digest their meal. After that point, the prey items begin to rot in the stomach.

Wait a couple weeks to feed, and then offer him a *single* F/T pinky a cut some slits into it. I tend to do three long slits down the length of the animal, shoulder to butt. Continue offering just 1 pink for a few meals, then offer double pinks for a few meals, and finally *a* fuzzy at a time.

There's no need to stuff your snake. If he's ready for hoppers, move him up. If you have lots of fuzzies in your freezer still, *two* fuzzies at a time is plenty.

Hey lilwing89,

I am going to some what disagree with Shiari.

I think you over fed and your temps are to low for the amount you fed. I would feed him one fuzzy next feeding time and increase his warm side temp to 85 degrees all the time. After that, I would do two fuzzies and still have the warm side at 85 degrees all the time and keep doing just 2 fuzzies until you run out of fuzzy and then move up to one hopper.

P.S. look for the Munson feeding plan. I do not use it but there is allot of people here who do and I think it would be a good guide line to go by.

Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for your input guys, I'll wait a few weeks and do what you suggested.

Fatman - I have looked up the Munson feeding plan, but it goes according to weight, and I don't have a small scale. Since I really have no use for it other than weighing a snake it doesn't seem like a good investment unless I'm going to run into this problem again or get more snakes or other pets. I'll just have to be more cautious about feeding my corn.

Like I said I do not use it either for the same reason you said I do not have a scale. The only reason I would buy a scale is to weigh my pellets for my air rifles so I could shoot tighter groups. I have gotten fine with out it for 5 or 6 years of keeping colubride snakes.

Yes, Fatman. I agree that the temps are too low for the amount fed. I didn't quite connect those two together when I wrote my reply. Thankyou for adding that information.

Thanks for the info guys. During the rest of the week, I noticed my corn's behavior was pretty normal despite regurgitating. He is still alert and peeking his head out of his hide as usual and he defecated the remains of his last meal - the two mice he didn't regurg I guess. I'm now wondering if I should avoid handling him for a few weeks, until his next feeding, or should he be fine with that?

You don't need to wait a few weeks to feed him, just ten days. I wouldn't handle him in that time.
