REGURGE from JuJube (Graphic)

OkeeteeMom

Lovin' My Snakes!
Well, I was hoping that I'd never have to deal with this, but...

JuJube is our newest corn and estimated to be a 2009. He did fine with his first feeding and ate again (8 days later) on the 20th of this month (4 days ago). I noticed that from his first feeding, his poop was kind of small. This looks like he was full on top of me feeding him again. His temps have been steady...the same as the other snakes. Maybe it's just from a new environment...I don't know.

He was cruising around today and when I looked in on him I saw this...

You can't tell from this pic, but when I picked up the mouse by the tail, it was empty of guts and only connected by the spine...

I'll be following protocol now. :(
Thanks to everyone that ever had to deal with a regurge and posted about it, so I could learn.

go to kathy's website and order some Nutri-bac. that stuff is AMAZING...and it's only like $15.00

That's not an Easter egg that you were wanting to find. At least you know what to do. When I had my first regurge, I offered another pinkie the same day, luckily she didn't want to eat it then, then I found out about the protocol and things went smooth.

You're right about the Easter egg thing! Good thing your girl didn't want to eat, huh?! Thanks for the encouragement. ;)

was he handled within the 48 hour period?

is he/she going into shedding?

are temps within range of what they shouuld roughly be, - warm side 80-85F?

and was she fed previously in a different environment or the tank she regurged in?

and was she fed previously in a different environment or the tank she regurged in? Same feeding bin as before

My replies are red

Honestly don't know what to suggest in this case, other than keep the stools (poop) and the regurge and send it to a specialist vet to see if it is an infection of some sort,

i think most likely it would be a stress related issue, perhaps a new environment, but neccessarily that.

I would monitor behaviours for next few days and retry a feed say 5 days later, (in meantime send the above off)

if feeds then and no regurge, it just may be because of stress

Yes, let us know how it goes. This makes me wonder about my snake Firefly. She will hold on to her poop forever and now maybe I'm thinking I shouldn't feed her again until I know she's gone.

One of my new snakes regurged her second meal, too. I didn't handle her at all, but maybe the stress of a new home does impact them that much. I'm just glad she kept the first meal and every meal since then down.

I got 4 snakes on March 11th, all 2009s.
I didn't handle them at all, letting them settle in.

Phedre ate 3 meals (1 pinkie for the first meal, 2 hoppers the next 2 meals.)
She regurged on April 9th.

Then Brisco, who ate 4 meals with no problems, regurged on April 17th.

I have moved all four back to smaller meals and have been coating the mouse butts with Benebac (like nutribac, but a different manufacturer).

I have them in isolation, all four in shoeboxes with aspen. Flexwatt underneath on a rheostat.
It gets to a max of 85*F, which I paranoidly checked twice a day every day after getting them. Once I saw a spike of 92, which panicked me... but that didn't last for more than 12 hours and none of them were buried in the aspen.

I was wondering if it got too cold for them, since they are in the basement which has been in the 60s and I had seen them laying on top of their hides, rather than burrowed in the aspen.

Or, maybe I was feeding them too much. They all weigh enough to eat hoppers- and they got the hoppers down with little problem, but for safety's sake, I've been feeding them double pinks for the last few meals. (after following strict regurge protocol) I don't have any fuzzies, I suppose I should get some and feed them those?

They are all bright-eyed and active- but I have only handled the two who haven't regurged, obviously. And then only after a two-week settling in period.

Hows your lil one doing??? Any other occurences??? Hope Jujube?? is feeling better and turns into an eating machine for you!! :) (you should feed your little one some wacky weed...i hear it gives ya the munchies!!!)

Sorry I haven't replied sooner, Rich. Losing my Mother has been quite hard on me.

I got a photo of JuJube sent to me from the Mister today. JuJube has been doing really well and has had no other regurges. We believe it was a one time thing, but he still get all his foods slashed to bits (for easier digestion) as well as doused in NutriBac.

I think he looks SO handsome! I miss him (and the Mister, as well as all my snakes and my dog). I haven't seen them since May

Very understanable....no worries. Hoping everything is going well for you...as for jujube....looks very healthy, and handsome indeed! Zena double clutched 5 eggs the 2nd time 'round...none were fertile. She's downing adult mice 2 times a week....225grams and climbing!
