Repti Bark

it's ok. some people like it, some dont. It's hard to see poop in b/c it's dark, and it doesnt hold moisture quite as well as some others but it's not a bad substrate at all. Personally, i like the dark color, but prefer cypress mulch over reptibark. I usually mix the 2 depending on what i have available

It does have the reputation for containing wood mites. (very tiny white bugs). Although they are generally harmless to your snake, you'll want to prevent getting them by freezing the bag of reptibark before using it. I've never had any problems after freezing.

I've been using it for almost 15 years, can't say I've ever had any real problems with it. The odd wood mite but, as mentioned above, they're harmless and you can freeze them out first if you want to.

I used it for a while, found it to be a bit dusty. Also I started to notice that it was staining my hands, wondering what effect it was having on my snakes, I went back to aspen

thanks for the imput, i did notice that the reptibark was dusty, i think the next time the tank gets clean, i'll try aspen. is there anything about aspen that i should be aware of? i've heard a lot of great things about it.

Repti-bark is also harder for the snakes to burrow in, especially compared to aspen.
