Hello there,

I had a blizzard corn male mate to a female desert king apparently and got a surprise clutch.

Has anyone heard of this happening before and what is the success rate of the babies?

My incubator is home made but I made it with a poly box, wooden dowels to support the egg tray, heat pad, temp gauge, and damp substrate as I read up on a few sites. But the temperature keeps going up to 100 when everything I read says 85-88 degrees so I've been having to keep the lid partially cracked. Is there a way to keep it lower? And how do I tell if the eggs are developing correctly ?

Any help would be appreciated, and thank you in advance for advice.

I won't even broach the cohabitation issue. :headbang:
They are called Desert Jungle Corns and are obviously hybrids. Incubation should be exactly like corn snake eggs, therefore no higher than 85F and humid.
Fertility is usually lower than normal with hybrids.

Thank you.

And yes I know cohabitation can be bad but they were originally my boyfriends and he didn't know to not do it. Now they can't live separate as they won't eat when you move them to separate tanks. Took less than a month for that to happen. Turds sleep curled up together and everything.

What makes you think they won't eat when separated? One instance of not eating when apart, especially when one is gravid and the other is a randy male, doesn't mean anything. And that "cuddling" is actually a show of dominance and has nothing to do with the two snakes liking one another. Keep in mind that King snake are called that because they eat other snakes. Keeping them together now will assure future "unexpected" events.
Good Luck.

Terri

Are you sure the eggs are fertile? I'd like to see a photo. Is there anywhere in your home that is 80F? Like a closet shelf? They are way better off a little cool. 100F will kill them.
