Retic Python in News

People in different countries consider different things to be food.
Once upon a time I was talking to a woman from India, and I made a joke about eating crickets (my frogs food - they were annoying me). She looked confused and I realized what was going on. After I explained it to her, she wanted to know why I wouldn't eat crickets. :p

Holy crap, that's one big snake....I wonder what kind of dogs? I also wonder how old the snake is...:/

Sorry Trevor :grin01:. I hate when that happens. Lol. I was looking for the other thread I saw here about that same snake but I couldn't find it. There's plenty of info on this snake when you do a google search on "python hoax Indonesia".

:cheers:Great minds think alike... so if you're thinking "I wish those were real beers" then we've done it again. Lol.

errm, Brianna, I don't want to be the Devil's advocate (loved the movie!) but there are countries where cats, dogs and snakes are part of the "normal" food like for us it is beef, chicken, turkey, etc...

I agree that I would absolutely hate to see a dog being eaten by a snake or just being eaten at all.

Please note that I am an animal lover and do not "like" the fact that some of our domestic pets are being eaten but we need to be realistic here. If dogs and cats were not domesticated animals, would we see the fact that they are eaten in the same way?
We eat pigs and chickens but we do not condemn a piglet or chick being eaten by snakes, do we!?

Yes yes yes, I know, some people have pigs as pets and also chickens but it is an unusual pet therefore most of the population would find it "normal" to see them as a food source.

Just my $0.02 on the subject..... :sidestep:

Why is it all right to feed mice, rats and rabbits to snakes, but not dogs?
How is a dog any more important than a mouse?
I'm not saying I encourage it, because I don't (whether it's true or not is irrelevant...) but I think it is unrealistic to be willing to sacrifice the life of one animal, and yet be horrified by the sacrifice of another.

Dogs are more important to me then most humans....truth hurts..
excuse me you are comparing mice to dogs....no comparison. Mice are stupid little rodets who reporudes faster then you can get the first litter out of the cage. Dogs are part of a family.
so it is ok to think: "Oh the snake is hungry, let's through him our little girl, she is appropriate size." no differece in my mind..

no matter what anyone says, they will not change my mind set on this, so don't try...

At least with animals, you really know how they feel about you. If a dog likes you, he will come to you but if he doesn't like you, he'll let you know ;)

Not trying to change your mind as we are all entitled to our opinions but we are just having a nice friendly exchange of points of view :D

I wonder if people make good food for big snakes...I know the whole, "sharks would rather a seal over a person" dealy so I'm wondering if that holds true for other "man-eaters"...i.e. preffering something aside from human

well, there has been pics (fake or not, I don't know) about a BIG snake that had eaten an adult man

Looks like that boy was on the Dean Arnold snake-diet...I wonder where they got a popsicle stick big enough? :grin01:

I don't know if people make good food for snakes but I know it occasionally happens. I remember a news report from five years ago about a little girl being eaten by a pet snake. That would be horrible!

Personally I don't see a problem feeding a dog to a snake. I wouldn't do it. I had a pet dog growing up. I wouldn't be able to forget that the food item could potintualy be someones life-long companion. Actually that's the exact reason I hate feeding live mice. The first time I had to get live was for my nieces snake. I felt so bad because while I was at the store a little boy was picking out some mice to be pets. I couldn't help thinking that the mice I chose could have made great pets to someone. I'm pretty well over that now  but it still lurks in the back of my mind. F/t is a different story, it has the emotional pull of chopped beef. (I did actually have a pet cow once.) Maby f/t dog would be ok :shrugs: .
