Reverse Albino Okeetee

ok...HI!! im new!!! glad thats out of the way

ok as my name and the title of this thread implies i own a Reverse Albino Okeetee Corn Snake at least thats what i was told at the pet store, but that why im here... he is look almost exactly like this http://pets.webshots.com/photo/2438455950083054072PHniDX?vhost=pets

and i paid $149.99 for him regardless i love him and i could care less if i was ripped off...BUT!!!
i do have some questions

was i ripped off? lol

Is there such thing?(Maybe it goes by an alternate name)

Are they rare?

thanx alot for all your help in advance

Yes, there is such a thing, and it looks to me like you got one :) "Reverse okeetee" is a trade name for albino okeetees, since instead of thick black boarders they have thick white boarders.

As far as the price goes, it depends where you got it, what age, etc. Pet stores tend to be the most expensive, but they spare you the cost of driving to shows or ordering online (cheaper). Adults cost more than babies.

IMHO the price is a little steep for a baby RO, but sound reasonable for an adult (~3ft) pet store RO.

Congrats on your fella, he's quite handsome :)

thanks alot for replying 1st of all and the one i have is about 3 ft so i guess it was a reasonable price =]] but is he really rare!!! or just a run of the mill albino

regardless i love him and btw if thats your snake in your avatar.... ooo weee thats one hott mama lol

oh and just so i stop getting confused everytime i see it

what does IMHO mean? lol ive seen it everywhere but im baffled i identified RO as Reverse Okeetee hoping thats right too lol

its a Reverse Okeetee and no not rare

and i do believe you were ripped off as my friend whos a breeder sells them anywhere from $50 for normal ROs(Reverse Okeetee) and $65-70 for high white ROs

ROs (yep, stands for Reverse Okeetees!) aren't what I would call "really rare" but they are "more rare" than a "run of the mill albino" ;) Okeetees and reverse okeetees have been selectively bred to have the high orange background color and white borders, so they've got a special "look"

IMHO = "in my humble opinion" ;)

Beothon Lover: Pet stores normally sell at about 2x the price of a breeder. This is how it has to be, as pet stores have a much higher overhead than a breeder. In return for the higher price people usually get convenience. Considering this is a young adult snake (ReverseAlbinoOkeetee says it is about 3ft) the price sounds standard.

Thanks, the snake in the avatar is mine, although he looks considerably different now; he's a bloodred and as they age they lose their grays and turn all red!

thanks and i guess for convience (didntthink about it at the time ) you could call me RAO instead of spelling the whole thing out

too band it lost its gray but i bet its still a beauty ;)

"high white RO" is kind of redundant. If it doesn't have very thick white borders(high white), it isn't an RO. But I digress...

$70 for a "high white RO" plus $60 shipping brings the total cost to around $130 for a baby. At that rate, $149 for a nice, RO adult from a pet store, where this person had the opportunity to see, handle, and have contact with the animal before committing doesn't hardly seem bad at all now, does it?? Even for a "low white RO" (whatever that is...I guess it would be just an amel...), $50 for the snake plus $60 for shipping gives you $110...for a baby...that they have never seen or handled, and still needs to survive shipping.

No...$149 for a nice adult RO doesn't seem so horrible when you factor shipping costs. And if the shop is clean and cares for their animals properly...you did just fine...At a show or a local breeder, you may have saved some money if you don't need to pay shipping costs. But when you factor in shipping costs, you need to account for $50-60 ABOVE the cost of the animal. Shipping is usually best used when purchasing multiple animals or very specific animals.

I always figured "high white" had to do with the background color; I've seen a lot of okees with very light backgrounds instead of the traditional orange.

Even shows can add a lot of expense with gas prices... it's about a 3hr trip one way to the shows around here (admittedly in the middle of nowhere), which means $60 in gas!

"Convenience" is actually a big deal with single snake purchases, when you add up time and transport!

Reverse Okeetees are not rare but they are still my favourite and I think they are one of the most beautiful morphs! Lovely little snakie!!!!

Hi RAO :wavey: welcome to the forum!

Congrats on your new snake!

As far as the price, I think it is very reasonable.

As well you should be ^_^. We have two Okeetees and can't wait to get a Reverse Okeetee out of them (hopefully!) when they have their first clutch....

The Reverse Okeetee is what my fiance wants and we are tempted time and time again to buy them when we see them, but we have to remind each other that breeding our Okeetees next season may very well turn up a couple of RO's in the clutch (for pretty much free).

It's good to wait Jadie.Glitch, there's something especially rewarding about breeding the morph you want and raising up a keeper! (and I don't just mean because it's "free"!!)

I'd agree with Tyflier...after considering shipping costs and the cost of a hatchling....$149.00 for a reverse okeetee that's 3 ft or better is a pretty good buy.

No...$149 for a nice adult RO...

Tell me if there is no such thing as a "high white RO", what constitutes as "nice"?

"high white RO" is kind of redundant. If it doesn't have very thick white borders(high white), it isn't an RO. But I digress...

$70 for a "high white RO"... Even for a "low white RO"...

I agree with you on the price stuff, but there is a difference. look at these images, taken from Don's site. Don by the way, does sell "high white" reverse okeetees.

Do you see a difference between "high white" and "low white"?

That's what I thought - but I kind of think a "high white RO" ought to be called a "candycane" XD When I think okee I think orange background, even more so than thick saddles ;)

... I guess "thick bordered candycane" doesn't have the same ring as "high white RO" though.
