Rheostat question

Hey everybody, I just recently bought a Zoomed Rheostat and I have had a lot of difficulty adjusting to a constant temperature. When it gets too hot and I turn it down slightly, it will fall below 70 degrees and there seems to be no "happy medium". Would you guys recommend another thermostat or is there an easier way the keep the temperature constant with the Rheostat? :sobstory: :sobstory: http://www.cornsnakes.com/forums/misc.php?do=getsmilies&wysiwyg=0&forumid=1#

What is "too hot"?

What kind of setup are you using? In other words, what size tank and UTH? How/where is the UTH attached?

Is the ambient temperature in the room constant?

That seems like a fairly drastic swing in temps. I know the rheostats I've made for myself hold the temperature pretty well. It's only when the room temp changes that the rheo needs adjusting. More info in your case might be helpful for someone to help diagnose your problem...not that I can guarantee a diagnosis ;)

I'd say get a real thermostat and dump the rheostat. reptilesupply.com has the ZooMed 500R Thermostat for 19.99 plus shipping, at least they did last time I checked.

I never had much luck with the ZooMed rheostat. I use plug in lamp dimmers from Wal-mart and they work great.
