Rubbermaid Shoebox?

HadesBP18

Poopsy Woopsy Luver
How long should I keep a hatchling in one of these enclosures for? He was born August 6th and is still small. I'm in the process of paying and having him shipped to me. I made a hole in it that connects to a hide box so he could have more room. But should I just keep him in there for a week and buy him a 10 gallon tank? Whadia think?

A shoe box will last for about a year for a corn, but they have to be cleaned much more frequently once they are big enough to move up from "peach fuzzies." And they get good at resisting being put back in a small enclosure when a litlle bigger. The only thing that concerns me is that you have cut a hole in it! I'm not sure exactly how you have done this to attach a hide, but be forewarned that hatchling snake can get out of ANYTHING not sealed tight. As for your last question, I'm not a big fan of glass aquariums, personally. They make larger Rubbermaids, and manufatured plastic snake cages, while pricey, are lightweight and almost unbreakable.

heh

Don't worry, my dad is handyman of the century. The snake won't be able to get out of this thing if he tried. Trust me, I already have a particularly sneaky ball python and (I hope) I know what to expect with a cornsnake.

Good point with the glass aquarium. I never looked at it that way. Hades is kept in a 30 gallon one and it sucks dragging that thing down the stairs every week to clean it.
