sense of space? or just curious?

What sort of sense of space do cornsnakes have?
I ask because my snake (4 months) spends a lot of time on his branches, with his head cruising around the top of the screen. Mostly around the edges of the screen. Does he sense that there is more space out there? Can he feel different air currents? Right now he is on a branch, reaching out as far as he can go, his 'upper body' totally rigid as he reaches out to poke the screen. Is this some desire to escape from the tank, or is he curious because he knows that there is more space that he can't get to? (He's not trying to get out because he's uncomfortable- the temps are good on both sides, humidity, etc. and he's also not hungry- just ate yesterday.) This is pretty regular behavior for him, so I'm just curious. Do your snakes spend a lot of time investigating ways to get to the space outside the tank? How do they percieve the space they're in?

he also...

He also falls down a lot when he reaches the limit of how far he can stretch out off the branch! I'll be working at my computer and look over to see him hit the deck (or the water bowl!). This is a show better than an aquarium!

I think that they must know that there is more space out there unless they have been born and raised in the viv, and have never been let out. They know that there is more to life than 4 walls, a ceiling, and a floor! I believe that they are a lot smarter than we think them to be!

Once, I caught Wadjet in an awkward pose. He had used his branches to get onto his round thermometer near the top of the viv. He wrapped himself all the way around it until he wasn't on his branches at all anymore! He poked around the top of the viv for a while. Then, he somehow managed to get back onto his branch without falling. It was amazing!:D I'll see if I can find some pictures.
